UNCC and surroundings

Im leaving for Charlotte tomorrow to go check out the motorsports program at UNCC. Has anyone had experience with the program or is in the program that can shed some light? Also, how is the scene in the area? drift events? I am originally from Miami and we dont get much events down there. thanks!

I'm actually going into my senior year in the motorsports program. I think it is a great program and can lead to many open doors in the future. The school and professors have many ties and relationships with people in the industry and that can certainly benefit you. The motorsports concentration have the same core classes as regular mechanical engineering, only difference is that you have to take motorsport electives(which still lets you choose the ones you are interested in). Some electives are automotive powerplants, cad/cam, motorsports instrumentation, applied vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, transmissions, finite element analysis, etc. Whether your into Nascar or Indy or any kind of motorsports, the program will certainly give you the exposure to succeed in the future.
In regards to the drift/car scene, it is very big. A school sanctioned car club a friend started on campus has had car meets of 200+ vehicles on campus at various parking decks. Also check out Streetwise Drift. They originated in Charlotte and hold many events throughout the year at Metrolina Expo as well as Zmax dragway and Lowes Motor Speedway.

I'm in my sophomore year of the program, so my experience in the in program is less than Michael's. However, I am a fellow 240 owner and have participated in several Streetwise events. Streetwise holds events almost every month and includes seat time, ride alongs, car show, and all kinds of vendors. There are also track days at Peidmont Dragway, which is a couple hours away.
Simply put, the car scene around here is excellent.

This is my first year at UNCC (freshman) and I hope to get in the Motorsports program. It seems like there's a good number of nice cars here. I've only seen two 240s here so far, a red s13 and an s14, but loads of Subarus and an AE86. Sadly my car is not here because its undergoing an SR swap.

Thanks for your replies guys! It definitely shed some light. I went to charlotte and Dr. Hill sold me on the program. the campus is awesome! Ill be transferring over fall 2014 and starting my junior year some hopefully ill meet some of you guys. Ill be attending the meets and events for sure. have to finish my ka-t setup asap.
