Is this Rb swap 240 worth it

I live in the midwest and have been looking for a nice swapped 240 for a while. My buddy knows this guy selling one and here is a run down on it and since you guys are the 240 experts i wanted to get your opinions on if you thought it was worth it or not.

1992 240sx hatchback
182xxx on chasis
Rb20det w/rb25 turbo and intercooler
Says no rust at all just very light surface rust on one of the frame rails
Driver seat is in bad condition and there is one crack on the dash
It does have 5 lug conversion
Z brakes
hydro e brake
Comes with 2 sets of wheels(one is a set of rotas not sure on others)
The problems that he said it has is.
Turbo oil seals are starting to go ( he has a full rebuild kit for the turbo)
Power steering line leaks (Has all the stuff to convert it to AN fittings and line)
It needs a paint job too
Then last he said the rear diff cover has a small leak.

He is asking for $4000 for everything. What do you guys think. Hes not that far only about 30 mins from my house. Every other one i seem to find it at least 4 hrs one way. Thank you for your time looking at this.

I'd take an awl or something with a hard point and see if that frame rail has any soft spots... Just because it appears to be surface rust, doesn't mean it is.

well what 240 doesnt have a power steering leak? haha seal all the shit up and take it.. thats not too bad.. offer the guy 3500... but depending on the interior id pay 3-4k for that

trying lowering it to 3.5k but 4k at the end of the day aint bad i seen worse 240sx sell for more or same price

He has all the interior stuff just doesnt have a cd player for it but has all the wiring and the driver seat is in bad shape. Motor runs flawless is what he said minus the turbo. He had a video of it running sounded good. Thank your for the input guys. I will deff try that on the frame rails. Anything i should be looking for in particular with buying an rb swap that could be a problem? Also he said rear diff is welded.

Its a RB20 but other then that the car looks alright, go over it with a fine tooth comb and I would see if you can take some kinda extended test drive with it, it is someone elses swap after all. You never know what may pop up after a while of driving that a short test drive won't reveal

i wouldn't feel bad paying $3500 for that IF there is no rust.

It has godspeed coilovers and Isis arms less than 2000 miles on them. He said every thing works on the cluster just the tach is a little off due to the swap being a 6cylinder. Again thank you for the input guys. I have been lurking around here for 2 years now trying to gather information on them. I am ready to buy one and want to make sure I dont get a junk one.

well your best bet on getting one that isnt "junk" is to get a stock one, although finding one that is stock and clean is hard as hell but no impossible but pricey...that would insure and mistake in modifying the car is done or known by you and you wouldnt be relying on the previous owners work... regardless im not diggin the coils but im sure you will be replacing those if you get the car.

Lots of 240's don't have PS leaks. If the owner has the stuff to fix it, then let him fix it and prove it isn't something else that could be ass pain for this kid.

I've seen worse sell for that too- doesn't make it right. The chassis is worth 500-600 at best... If you think that a beat-up RB20 with a turbine about to expire, Z32 brakes and some shit coils/arms is worth the other $3,500; then PM me when you are ready to buy another and I will find you a super-sweet 'deal' ;)

What exactly does 'flawless minus the turbo' mean? If he has the interior shit, have him install it... have him fix the PS leak... Once the money changes hands, whatever problems it has are no longer his.

If there is 'minor rust' on the frame rails, there is prolly major rust elsewhere... a welded diff is the absolute WORST thing imaginable for the midwest winter (if you plan to DD it)...

Price sounds typically steep for what it looks like.

I appreciate the honest advice. I am in michigan a litte far from St.Louis but I do appreciate the offer. As for the "motor running flawless" that is just what he told me, same as my buddy. I have personally never seen it but my buddy has, claims it runs amazing. Im trying to set up a meet with him this weekend so I can take a look for rust, also i do not plan on dd it in the winter. Just a summer toy.

I am work bored surfing the web, and decided to search craigslist in detroit for a 240 and a rb26dett 240 is for sale. Said the problem is that gas gauge and speedo dont work. Also some of the aftermarket gauges that are put in "work half the time" and if you drive it on the high way in 5th it will go into limp mode after 5 mins so you have to keep shiftinng down to 4th every 5mins to keep it from going into limp mode.
