Hello everyone,
I have a quick question and it may be a dumb one but I was just wondering.
Here we go. I wanted to know if your engine will experience a loss of power from excessive vibration from the engine? I have noticed in the past day or so that my engine rocks a lot more than usual. I suspect engine mounts are bad and are in need of replacing. So ever since my engine has been doing this the throttle response is not the same and she sputters plus sounds funny at the exhaust end.
Well that's it in a nutshell. Any thoughts?

If you run your car with bad motor mounts your going to ruin your exhaust gaskets and much more. What motor is this?

the engine itself won't "lose" power, but instead of transmitting it through the driveline and to the wheels, it is wasted rocking against blown out mounts, and yes, it will fuck up exhaust gaskets by putting excess strain on the exhaust system.
replace dem bishes asap. driftfreaq dave makes some very nice solid mounts, or you can always get nismo or that style, you can also find used oem ones relatively cheap.

It's a ka24de off my 95 240. That makes total sense. Because it sounds like there is an exhaust leak that was not there the day before this issue came up.

Would an Engine Torque Damper help with the problem?

Well just for the record the saying is do it right the first time or do it again. So I wouldn't suggest that instead of replacing bad motor mounts...

No, after replacing the mounts, if it's still shaky.

Good quality motor mounts won't be "shakey" but I suppose a damper wouldn't hurt as long as you can run one.

Thanks for the insight guys. Just so I know I'm getting the right parts. There a total of two mounts (left and right) that I will need to change? I see some mounts sold in pairs and then a transmission mount.

Just confirm with what ever vendor your buying from if each or pr for pair. They are pretty easy to change self explanatory. But if you need any incite let us know.

I would like some guidance. I am only a weekend wrench turner so not too much experience. If you know where there is a step by step instruction or vid let me know thanks.

if your motor mounts are bad, your trans mount is most likely bad as well...

Wow bro. Sorry for asking. I thought the whole purpose of this forum was so people can get advice from others. So mr.know-it-all what do recommend?

Simple tune up to begin with. Eliminate bad plug, wires, and distributor cap/ rotor. Is your ecu flashing any mis fire codes? Also check for possible vacuum leaks.

So his motor mounts are not possibly bad? lol
Just saying my engine shook like crazy and felt gutless yet had no misfire so its not clearly a misfire. It could be any number of things.

Woah, don't get your panties in a bunch. I simply just advised him on the questions he was asking. And first and formost nor I or you have seen the car in person so nothing is clear. I cannot say if the motor mounts are good or not nor if it ha a misfire or not.
But thanks for you oh so enlightening post.

If your problem is dressing the engine bay, then yes. If the problem is dead mounts, then no.
I suggest you go with oem mounts, they will be miles better than the worn ones everyone has, and will filter every possible vibration (that is their job, they were designed for that).
If you plan to turbo it though, get some solid mounts. Nismo mounts are harder than oem, but way less than PU/hockeypuck/solid mounts, so they will filter some vibrations too. Other mounts will transmit engine shake to the whole car (i hope you got serious red loctite for every nut & bolt in the car, plus glue for everything that needs to stick in place without a nut).
Edit:
You could also go for the poor mans job. Remove your worn out mounts. Fill them with windshield glue. Let it cure. Mount them back. Voila ! Solid mounts for pennies (it will vibrates horribly, like any solid mount)

What are your thoughts on cusco stiff mounts. I may have a good on them but I read they vibrate a lot. This car is my dd and be seeing any track time so I just wanted to know if its a good choice.

If you want Nismo mounts, don't, buy these instead, way cheaper then Nismo and IMO feel way better. They will vibrate more than stock when driving but are buttery smooth at idle. They also don't seem to vibrate as much as my friends Nismo mounts yet the motor doesn't rock as much.
