I have to get my car smogged by the 7 of July. I have a 1998 oem 5 speed 14. I checked what codes I was throwing and I got these codes:

P0325 - Knock sensor circuit malfunction
P0335 - Crankshaft position sensor
P1336 - Crankshaft position sensor

Why is the ckp sensor throwing 2 different codes? Kinda new to this but isn't there only 1 ckp sensor on the bell housing? And the knock sensor is in the middle of the intake manifold correct?

If I were to replace those two would it erase all codes?

The knock sensor usually comes faulty on these damn cars. Google it and there's a way to put a resistor on it so it'll erase the code. As for the ckp codes. Have you recently done a tranny swap?

Ok ill look that up!

No to that. I bought it about a year ago and the guy never said anything about a tranny swap.

Locate & download a Factory Service Manual here on Zilvia for your 98 S14. Use the SEARCH function here on Zilvia to locate the FSM.

Your Check Engine Light could be coming on due to an electrical short in the wiring either at a ground point or at the sensor itself. Although the PO325 Knock Sensor Circuit is not grounds for failing California Smog, it will drive you nuts trying to figure out how to fix the damn thing. I personally think it's the damn wiring harness that's gone bad & NOT the knock sensor itself. I've seen too many of the damn PO325 error codes on my & my buddies S14's.

As for the Crank Angle Sensor code, that may cause you to fail smog as it will affect your vehicle's timing. IF your vehicle was ever serviced, that is the transmission was removed from the vehicle, (clutch job, etc), the Crank Angle Sensor could have been damaged when the transmission was pulled or put back on the vehicle. I've seen that happen on a couple of S14's where the sensor itself was damaged or the clip going to the sensor was damaged. Best to use the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL, (FSM) to troubleshoot & fix the problem.

Hope this helps....Good Luck!!!

PS:
Use the SEARCH function here on Zilvia to find info on how to pass your smog check or how to fix problems due to failing smog check. Recommended things to do before a smog check: 1) SEAFOAM the engine, 2). Change your distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs & air filter, 3). Check your engine timing & set your idle to 700 rpm - SEE FSM for timing & tuneup procedures & 4) Check to make sure the little 90 degree hose elbow between the BPT & EGR is not disconnected / cracked / broken / melted. If it is, fix it - failure to do so will cause you to fail smog due to high NO readings. 5). Check the rubber vacuum line that goes to your Fuel Pressure Regulator to make sure the hose is not cracked or leaking. And option #6). You may want to consider replacing your front Oxygen sensor - a bad O2 sensor could cause you to fail smog.
