Just picked up my "new" s13, got a good deal on it and it's super clean. Anyway i noticed on the ride home that's it's pretty down on power and it shakes at idle. Also when cruising at low rpm if i get into the throttle is sends a vibration through the car, but it doesn't do it at higher rpm. It's slow to rev and it seems like it's kind of loud for the rpm (although that might be true of all ka's, idk this is my first). The guy i bought it from said he changed the distributor, so i'm thinking it's just that the timing is off. I'm going to go ahead and and check that and give it a full service with fuel filter and all that jazz.
So what I'm thinking is that it's low fuel pressure or bad ignition timing. It only has 94k on it so i don't think the timing chain has been touched.
Anything else it could be? or anyone have this problem?
Thanks

Did you not test drive the car before you bought it?

When you say down on power, do you mean its just slow, or do you mean its slow like a Geo Metro going uphill towing a camp trailer. KAs are not by any means a powerful engine after 20 or so years. The shaking is most likely bad mounts, and that will only make the car slower.

^^^ yeah it sounds like you have bad motor ad tranny mounts i think there is a gy that sells them on here for a good price. lack of power? what do you expect from a 20 year old cast iron truck motor in a car?

I know ka's are slow lol but yea this is obvious loss of power. Its got just enough to pull the car up to speed. I really want to get a light on there and check the timing. Weird thing is that it starts right up, no extra cranking whatsoever.
And to the first response: yes I did but like I said I got a great deal on the car and its stupid clean.

Alright checked the timing, dead on. Replaced the fuel filter and it actually felt a little better, but still felt weak. So i did some more shit and figured out that cylinder 1 isn't firing. Yep, that will do it. I don't have a compression tester, but i did the old leave the wire in the hole and that sucker blew it like 3 feet in the air lol. Plenty of compression. Tried a different wire, no go. Tried a new plug, no bueno either. Soo i'm thinking injector? I dunno that's all i got.

did you ever investigate the vibrations and shaking? and honestly new injectors and spark plugs will make your car drive much better. check the spark plug on cylinder 1 is in black and corroded/messed up? that could be the case as well.. no spark/ bad spark = terrible power, fuel econ, and messed up firing.

Plug looks brand new. I'm leaning towards bad injector. Gonna check it out tomorrow, hopefully that's the problem.

Alright! Dead injector on cyl 1. Watched all the injectors fire while someone cranked it over and all but cyl 1 worked. So i put the cyl 2 wire on the cyl 1 injector and still no go. So the only thing it can be is the injector. I need to drive it on monday so i think i'll have to do the unspeakable and buy a new one :faint: Or maybe i can find someone parting a car out on Craigslist.

Buy these. Best motor mounts for your money. Get the transmission one too. I heart them. Your welcome in advance

I'll save that link, looks like good quality pieces. I don't think i need them now though, there's no shaking at idle now that it's running on all 4. But i'm sure once i start beating on it the old oem mounts will die.
