hey guys, i'm a noob. had my car for about 6 months now. having a little problem with the brakes..

here's the deal: my rear right caliper has been making a grinding noise thats been getting worse and worse. thinking i had a rock stuck in my brake pad, i took the caliper apart to find out that my inside brake pad is completely worn out and is destroying the rotor. for some reason, the outside brake pad was in good condition. so i got some new pads, as a quick remedy. but when i tried compressing the piston, it would not compress at all. no matter how much i turned it, it wouldnt go in. unfortunately, since i wasnt able to install the new brake pads, i had to put my old ones in. i ordered a new caliper and piston so thats on the way, but here's my concern: when i put the caliper back together and bled the lines, my parking brake light stayed on. i'm just wondering if its the piston thats screwed up, or maybe something with the parking brake cables or assembly? any suggestions? please help!

Did you use a small needle nose pliers to twist the piston back in for the rear calipers? That might be the problem why the piston didn't go back in. You may not need a new caliper. For the brake light staying on, I had that problem after I bleed the brakes, but if you pull the hand brakes up and down for a few times and drive around the block, it should turn off eventually. Try it out first.

yea.. thats exactly what i did. i twisted the piston clockwise, but it didnt go anywhere. tried twisting it counter-clockwise, it came out a bit, but then wouldnt go back in at all.

and for some reason the brake light is still on, even after driving around and trying to pull the handbrake (not at the same time :).

i'm getting my new caliper today, so i hope that fixes the problem.. but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

try using a brake key, u can get um at like autozone, kragen, it looks like some retarded puzzle cube, u put it in with a socket and turn...problem solved.

if the brake light is still on, check your brake fluid level.
