Rod knock maybe - YouTube (http://youtu.be/L8z7InxQ_1w)

Just swapped in a ka and everytime I have the #2 spark plug wire in I get a tick but it goes away with higher rpm. Please help

If it goes away with higher rpm, it's not rod knock...

What could the noise be from

Sounds like rod knock to me, especially that you stop it from firing and the noise goes away.

Wouldn't it get worse the higher rpm?

I don't know if it's rod knock, but there didn't seem to be a change in power.
Look at the spark plug!

Yeah I'm gonna check it out later, it's raining hard outside lol thanks

Could a bad coil pack make this sound?

Could a bad coil pack make this sound?

I swapped the spark plug wires and it still makes the same noise

Another question:

Could the knock go away because it isnt having combustion force the piston down?

Im just spitballing

Very possible, probably compression test it sometime this week

Check for rod knock check each cyl
Remove spark plugs
*put cyl 1 right after TDC and push down on it with a screwdriver and you feel play or does push down means bad rod
*check all other cylinders the same way.

Thanks for the help guys i appreciate it

Well obviously you've narrowed it down to that cylinder, but as stated, rod knock would get worse with an increase in rpms. It wouldn't go away. Drain your oil and look for metal. If it is infact rod knock you'll have metal in the pan.

is your header cracked at the #2 exhaust flange?

Unplug the injectors one at a time?

Unplug the injectors one at a time?

i did that and swapped them over aswell..same noise in the same cyl. Could this noise be from having no headers gasket?

Ummm yeah it could be. You have one header, not headers and why would you run no gasket?

Highly doubt it, not having a exhaust manifold gasket will cause am exhaust leak and ur engine would be loud although it wouldn't sound like that. Regardless put one on its not good for your motor if you don't have one.

I still think its an exhaust leak..

i dont think it's rod knock if it was it would still knock because your still compressing air regardless of a 500psi explosion or just a 160psi no explosion it's applying enough pressure on the rod bearing to make it knock if it were rod knock, it's not valve train and we can clearly see it's nothing related to electrical so we can rule plug and wire out.

have you done a compression test? honestly to me the fact that it does not sound like that after you pull the plug means it would HAVE to be a exhaust gasket as the gasses are not expending it's just pumping air out.

I'd put money on exhaust header gasket.... then again he is not running one (un even surfaces)

compression test results : 180 175 190 195 from 1st cyl to 4th in that order

Knocking went away, I guess it was not havin a gasket there. Motor is running healthy and fine
