two days ago i noticed when going to my car in the morning that their was some kind of stain on my inner windsheild that looked like oil when it was mixed in water. Like rainbow colors. I am wondering how some type of fuel could be getter through my vents. Also i notice when i get out of my car i can kind of smeel fuel every once in a while I changed my fuel filter to a 300zx one a couple months back and i have a 5 zigen catback that i put on a while back that has gotten a little scraped up from speedbumps but no holes to let out vapors. i will try to get some pics and post them up tomorrow but if anybody has any insight i would love to hear it.

you getting a sweet smell inside? could be a busted heater core.

if yo clean your interior with alot of chemical cleaner that can cause it too......

check the hoses coming in and out of the fuel filter. with these old hoses its really easy to kink one and create tiny holes. if you didn't already, i would spend 5bucks and 5 minutes and replace them; eliminates a possible cause and should be done anyway.

i bet you you put armoral or someother cleaning product on your dash, that is what cause those rainbow colored stains that you can wipe off and have oily residues, you really cant tell when you do clean your dash only from the outside

their is no sweet smell inside my car and i have never used cleaners on my interior. just a good old rag. I will check my fuel filter hoses but i am about 99 percent sure that isnt the case because when i changed the fuel filter i didnt see any abnormal wear or cracks on the hoses.

if you didn't bend them excessively when installing i also doubt you kinked them. however, cracks and holes in the hose can be damn right invisible unless you actually pull the hose off and start bending and twisting it a bit. then you'll see small holes appear, if that is the problem. i had a big ass hole in mine but you couldn't see it with the filter on. once i pulled it off and bent a little i saw a huge crack easily half an inch long. it was causing my car to bog in 2nd gear around 3.5k rpms. i also had a strong gasoline smell in the cabin after i had left it parked for a while. no oily residue though.
if your hose is soft-ish its time to get a new one. i replaced both hoses and i was amazed how soft they were compared to the new ones. the new one barely bends at all and doesn't deform when you squeeze it. good luck with ur problem.
