In the process of putting my head back together, and ran into a little problem. I picked up a set of s14 cams (232/232) to do a 248/232 cam swap. Read up a little more before putting the cams in, and realized that the 94 s13 exhaust cam has a slightly different cam spec than 91-93 s13. Will this give me a problem? Specs:

’91-’93 240SX (S13) - **Note: '94 Exh Cam specs are slightly different**

Int Cam = 240 Duration
Lobe Height = 1.6699”-1.6774”
(Int opens 1* after TDC & closes 61* after BDC)

'91-'93
Exh Cam = 248 Duration
Lobe Height = 1.6699”-1.6931”
(Exh opens 64* before BDC & closes 4* after TDC)

'94 Exh Specs
Exh Cam = 248 Duration
Lobe Height = 1.6699”-1.6931”
(Exh opens 60* before BDC & closes 8* after TDC)

’95-’98 240SX (S14)

Int Cam = 232 Duration
Lobe Height = 1.6699”-1.6774”
(Int opens 1* after TDC & closes 53* after BDC)

Exh Cam = 232 Duration
Lobe Height = 1.6699”-1.6774”
(Exh opens 48* before BDC & closes 4* after TDC)

It's not the height of the lobe that is different, but when the valve opens/closes. I don't want to run into any problems bending valves and what not, so I figured I'd ask before I put the whole motor back together.

You should put the motor together with the stock cams, and when you're sure everything is good. Swap the 248 cams from the 93, following the correct procedure. 2¢

When you find the answer you are looking for please update this thread. People say this cam swap is a waste of time but any time you are making the motor more responsive at certain powerband i do not think that's a waste. Every little bit counts and adds up. Try searching the na ka faq/sticky. Maybe it's been covered there? Intersting bit of info about cam profile changes between years i didn't know about before. I was told some cams even come 240* but dunno about lift, duration and open/close times though.

Good call on asking.

I've read up on it a good amount, and I'm pretty certain it will make somewhat of a difference. Even if it doesn't, it was a $30 mod. And yeah, this 94 deal is throwing me off.. I think this was the year Nissan decided to make some changes to the 240 but half ass it in the process lol

I've been reading up very much on cam swaps because I just went 240/248 to 248/248 (4 teeth CCW) and am now considering 248/232 since 248/248 seems pretty whack so far. But I digress... The 94 240sx came with 232/232 cams. To make sure of this, look to see that your motor does not have butterfly valves (assuming your motor is not swapped or anything).

If this is the case I'll trade you a 248 for a 232 ;]

Edit from what I read the 94 motor came with 232 cams but you should double check!!

My motor doesn't have butterfly valves. But my set of s14 232/232 cams are different from my motor's stock cams..
