Im helping my brother relocate his battery to the trunk in his coupe and we were wondering if we should run the wires inside the car or outside the frame rails(or along the brake lines mabie?)?also the best place to put it is on the right side of the trunk right? Where have you guys ran yours..

whos car are you talking about mike?
Rick's? Steve's?
anyways.. usually people will route it under the passenger side fender, and then inside the car (passenger side), and through the trunk.. or you can skip the fender and go straight inside the car.

mines on the inside, under the carpet, comes from firewall, all along the door frame on the floor, under the back seats... to the pass side of the trunk

Inside the car is better for security purposes. Outside would be easy to cut and disable alarm. Mine is run inside, but its too close to the stereo wire and picks up noise. I need to relocate my stereo wire on the other side.
quick question, how did you guys hook up the longer wire to your stock wire?
I was thinking cutting off the old battery clamp and using a big crimp. Any easier way, btw I'm an electrician so I'm not afraid to cut and splice if I have to. thanks

run it inside, its very easy, took me about 10 minutes, just take off the passenger door sill, pop out the back seat bottom, then its no problem, then poke a big hole through the grommet for the main engine harness, that will get you from the cabin to the engine bay
I ran mine inside, on the left side of passenger seat... I'm guna add a power cut off right there later.

The safe correct way to do it would be to install a fuse or breaker between them. There are also big screw on butt splices that would work. The ghetto way (what I did) is to just screw the lug from the extension wire onto the existing battery clamp (that used to go to the battery). I broke off part of the old clamp to make it easier to work with. Wrap it up good with electrical tape, and clamp it away from the metal chassis.

I also heard that you have to have a power cutoff switch on the outside of the car(nhra rules).. do you think you can run at the track on test and tune day without one?

depends on the track the other way is to get an extra taillight and drill a hole in it to run a rod out from the trunk for your battery cutoff then after the track you just change housings and all is well again

Easiest way and by far the cleanest get ring terminal and attach it to the starter. theres a post there that runs from the tarter to the fusebox. take the bolt of put your ring terminal over it and put the nut back. simple and done with

if they don't wanna drive the car away (tow it, or just wanna steal what's inside), then thieves don't care about cutting the main power cable

well its also tucked unde the car far enough he'd have to jack the car up to get under it to cut it anyway. not something a thief in a hurry is going ot do or think about

i run it on the inside cause those are some wires i wouldnt want to get jacked up by some debris thats on the road.

I ran mine on the inside of the car as well, down the passenger side. I have a 100 amp circuit breaker in the trunk inside the battery box and then a non fused distribution block in the engine bay to connect them and my alarm wires.
