So after a getting rid of the Zenki to fund a house it's time to start again!

RIP:

After a 10 hour road trip I finally have a JZX100, I've wanted one for a few years now and the time has certainly come. Messing around with S-bodys for the past 8 years has taken it's toll and this was pretty much the only car for me other than a Cosmo, which I really didn't want the issue of converting to manual or being scared shitless of blowing up. I did try and bid on a few JZX100 MK2s in the auction but the manual ones were going for way too much money.

This particular car is a factory manual which has been sprayed black from the original dark green. Mods are basic but a fair starting point:

Work Rezax 18xsomething small because of lame arches.
Coilovers (unconfirmed brand)
Blitz nur spec cat back
Blitz filter
HKS EVC
Greddy type S BOV
Subframe locking collars
Uprated diff bushes

maybe some more bits but nothing too serious.

Removed the rear wiper already! hate the damn things.

Even with the few things done already I have to say what a fucking car! Noise, comfort, looks and slides well what more could you want.

So, I've been working my way through a small list of things to do and sort out:

Had to replace the rear stud due to them being cut to run massive spacers, I hate massive poke it looks stupid....tucked is where I want to be.

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/DSCF0889_zps1461d1f4.jpg

Side tracked by mess:

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/DSCF0884_zps057d1789.jpg

After a lengthy battle freeing up the coils it came on only to find the rears were as low as they'd allow I decided to get some new HSD coilovers. I've had great experiences with these before and they're available form DW so it was a no brainer.

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/DSCF0906_zpsdda7ed01.jpg

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/DSCF0908_zps97f20f3d.jpg

I've dropped the rears as low as they'd go but it's still not enough, I'm hoping they will settle down some more once I've put some more miles on them. Extreme measures will follow if not.

Picked up a Zeta iii

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/C3B2D773-CFAC-4E25-92A1-FDC1147BF848-4136-000005CE6135E590_zps5e95d31b.jpg

I've got some more bits and pieces to throw on asap. Wheels are the next thing to sort, might relip the Rezax and pick up some XT7's aswell.

Only had it 4 weeks and the spend is racking up fast, but it's so worth it...not sure why I didn't get one sooner.

Ah yeah! My type of thread! I like what you did with your previous car, so I'm sure this will turn out dope. I've been thinking about ditching my plans, and picking up a JZX100...

Oh and we are seat besties...You've got nice tastes my man!

Zeta iii's are by far the best seat I've ever sat in, sooo so nice. Wouldn't mind a set of Cuga's one day though.

Had a mess about with the rear coils to get lower

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/53267146-CBBF-4921-A039-12725D7983DB-4136-000006329FDF9BCF_zps18edb88f.jpg

That's with around an inch of droop and for now it'll stay at this height, the house I'm in now has an awful drive but my new house is tucking rim friendly!

Door visors, you can't be pimpin' without them....

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/DEFC232C-E3A3-4D41-AFB0-170D374A4BE1-4136-00000690F356A056_zps9f120515.jpg

Visors thanks to Jesse!

So the next plan of action is wheels, clutch and tracking down an oem roof wing at a sensible price from YAJ...importing is fun.

Zata 3's are the buisness for sure. The drop is looking good! :)

I thought you guys couldn't use these on the road?

Nah, here in Canada we can legally import any RHD car. It just has to be more then 15 years old. So I could import one if I wanted to. I'm holding out for something else next year (though I've come close to ordering one).

Usually I'm warning people to stay off of YAJ, as you can sink money FAST...But in this case, I say go for it!

Oh and those coilovers that came with your car were Tanabe SUSTEC PRO S-0C (I believe anyways)...

Nah they have not changed it, I just didn't really dig into the details of importation.

JZX100 were all single.

A lot of work to be done in here, mainly loosing the mess of wiring (some isn't even used) but I'll tackle some of that when I fit an FMIC...if I can find a decent one.

I know man it's a bad thing having people like Jesse making it easy. Thing is there's probably only 10-20 or so over here so importing parts is the only way, well when it comes to alot of parts anyway.

Thanks, I did figure out what they were when I pulled them out just never updated the list.

When are you planning to fit a intercooler? I had seen a used HPI set on YAJ for 150,000 yen with no bids.

There's a guy over here who deals a lot with Toyota's, he has a JZX100 coming over for breaking so I'm gona wait and see whats on that when it arrives. I'll try not to use YAJ where possible because of the shipping cost, obviously for most things it's the only place to go.

I just put a jzx100 motor in my 180sx, great motors, weak turbos... Replacement aftermarket manifolds are $$ and a bitch to find a quality one, had to make my own for fitment purposes, I'm curious to see how the vvti spools a big turbo and the potential of this motor...

Slight update...

Got these on a container waiting to leave Japan:

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/18x952818x1010_zps13f6bf99.jpg

18x9.5 +28
18x10 +10

The rears may be a little strong but we'll see when they eventually turn up.

Also just purchased a new set of XT7's in WMB (chrome) finish 18x9.5 et20 all round, should hopefully see them end of next week.

I did get out bid on a nice set of Minerva's though which I'm pretty pissed about but I WILL own a set soon enough.

Thanks guys!

Yer XT7's are so under rated and they're the only single piece wheel I'd buy other than TE's. Good thing is they're available in Chaser friendly sizes and still tapered.

Here's a pic of the Rezax I took off the car and rebuilt:

Thanks guys.

Not sure what to do for aero, quite liking the ease of the oem although I need a new splitter because the fit bugs me on the current one. Time well tell though, I want to spray it next year so I've got time to decide.

Only things that are set in stone are Ganadors and an OEM roof wing once I man up and front up the $380+ they sell for on YAJ!

The XT's fitment is just on point for me, I can get rid of some rear camber without to much issue. The Equips will push my fenders past what I want, no big flares wanted.

I still intend on picking up some Minerva's when I find a set that suits.

I'll probably change my mind when they show up, I'm easily swayed when it comes to wheels.

Not really man, moved into my new house last week so been flat out on that.

My drive wasn't as flat as I remembered either.... I had to make a ramp the day I bought the JZX home just to get it in safely, bad times! It's the length of these that cause so much issue when they're low, a small crest becomes a mountain in this. The only solution to this was to remove a wall in my front garden to make a new JZX parking spot.

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/994273_10152001704524418_1475328166_n_zps34506d19. jpg

Mess on the left will be will be getting a nice flat layer of tarmac asap.

I wish we had nice big houses/garages like you guys have for sensible money

Anyway enough on that, I did buy some Kouki rear lights for it (not arrived yet).

http://noriyaro.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/19_20_chaser_001.jpg

Other than that my immediate plans are to pick up everything I need to start TIG welding and get making my own parts where I can. I've wanted to do it for a while and with having to ship pretty much everything I need for the Chaser from Japan it makes sense to start now. Custom high mount exhaust will be high on my list.

Long time no post, been a bit busy with the new house recently but I've still been taking the JZX out now and again.

So, went to take it out a few nights back and got 100ft from my house before I felt it pulling to the left....went back an yep, tyres going down. Now, being that nobody local seems to want to come and tarmac my drive (or even quote on it for that matter) I was pretty pissed that I'd have to jack it up on gravel using a plank of wood, not as pissed as I was once I got the wheel off however.....

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/063FBF7D-F570-4CD2-941A-89816780A706-14742-0000108328835858_zps88a844b2.jpg

Nothing wrong here:

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/0967D1BE-C531-4D52-9AF2-E028AD3FDB2E-14670-00001067277F91BE_zps4cfe85f0.jpg

WTF!:

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/FF596ABD-06FC-43EB-9ADD-8D7193066FCB-14670-000010672D94B3F0_zpsc6cc192a.jpg

Pretty fucking lucky to say the least. The last time I used it there was sideways action and 100mph+ on the way home.

Weird thing is there was never any rubbing noise, no burning rubber smell, there's not even a mark in the wheel arch and the drivers side is fine. Only thing I think it could be:

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/4ACAC62A-8A13-4898-90DB-CCE223E381C1-14670-000010673E0C5610_zpsb4bdd1a2.jpg

So I've hammered them up and out the way and I'm going to pick up some 225.35's instead of the 40's I was running. I'll be keeping an eye on it now I know that much!

While I was out on the car thought I'd finally swap the oil for some liquid gold:

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/43163943-B51A-46F9-B5C4-8A0804EB0659-14670-0000106734522188_zpsa4cb859e.jpg

Filter was a prick to get off, seriously wish I'd ordered a relocation kit now.

Got Uras rods and Super Now ends on order too:

And also these should be here end of the week:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/ed_mgb/IMAG0587_zpsf6172d94.jpg

18x9.5 +20, same as the XT's.

Always loved Model 5's so I had to buy them, even though I need soooo many more important bits.

Might end up selling a pair on...

WOW...Lucky indeed!

And getting trades to you house can be a job in itself. Sometimes you have to call multiple times...Other times they seem like that can't be bothered since they're so busy.

Keep trying my man...

Yer thing is over here busy tradesmen mean expensive tradesmen. Thinking of block paving it myself and saving the cash now.

AVS showed up, such an underrated wheel:

Turned out to be 18x9 +20 and had a bit more rash than expected, Think I'll just keep a pair and try sourcing a pair of 10j's too.

Probably throw a pair up for sale on here over the weekend.

Not really much news on this, just been using it as much as possible. Went out one night last week in it and nearly had a mishap haha.

At the moment though it's MOT time (yearly test here).

Clocks out to remove the Christmas tree lights I've been running, ABS, Airbag, Seat light ,Traction etc etc

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/15EA501D-AE41-46FD-B341-153F990F725F-2441-00000390F70D3701_zps0de14940.jpg

Thought I'd better fit the speedo converter behind the clocks while I had them out, I've only been meaning to fit it for the past 5 months. However all the wires were different to the manual and then I found out it wouldn't remove the limiter from there so that'll have to be fitted at the sensor instead.

The Homo wheel had finally pissed me off though (surprised it lasted this long):

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk256/s14amarc/D11A940A-A328-4839-94EC-4A30D8CD80E6-2441-00000390EDE1DD20_zps13fa8912.jpg

My front brakes are fucked and also pretty shit, I looked at a few upgrade options for this but the OEM upgrades really don't seem worth it for the money so I've have ordered a Willwood 4 pot 345mm front kit. I doubt it'll be amazing but should be fairly decent.

Also have Ganadors (stuck in customs, thanks!) on the way, once they're on I'll be pretty happy with it visually bar an OEM roof wing when I feel flush.

Still need a clutch, currently bidding on my 3rd one on YAJ...maybe I'll get this one.

For anyone who I don't talk to on FB here's a couple of recent snaps, static...sorry.

ORC twin plate, should be good for whatever power I eventually throw at it.

Also threw these OEM b pillar pillars on, got bored of the chrome ones coming unstuck.

Any plans for power adders?

All in good time my man, I prefer to get the footwork in place 1st and build from there. Once the brakes, clutch and alignments sorted I'll start on the power. At the moment it's still running the wing mount IC and front half of the exhaust is stock, still goes though for a big bus.

Hopefully by next summer it'll be running a GTX35 or similar, I want around 400whp and similar torque if possible....all though that figure keeps climbing every few months haha.

tricky_ab
09-12-2013, 09:32 PM
Ah that's cool. For brakes, are you looking at running Supra calipers, or some other BBK?

As for you HP goals rising every time you think of it... it's easy to shoot for the moon with that power plant under the hood ;)

current specs are 18x9 +37 Lo disc, 18x10 +37 SL disc. Going to put the front faces into the rear lips/barrels and have new ones made up for the rear, plenty of arch work will follow..

The XT's will likely go up for sale after shitmas though because they'll be way too sunken once I fuck around with the arches. Shame because I do really like them, but I've always been a dish man.

Tricky sorry I never saw that post man. I've seen that car a few times, mainly from others comparing it to mine haha. The fenders look neat on it that's for sure

Updates, well not a lot to be honest. I still have the clutch sitting here waiting to go on as well as a Cusco 2way I need to fit into the casing. There's also an Apexi N1 cat back on a slow boat from Japan heading my way. I've been at work a lot for the past couple of months and when I've had time spare I've actually gone out and driven it which makes a nice change to just working on a car like my previous s chassis.

I hope to take some time off in January to get my drive done (finally) and get the car off the ground to fit the above and get the exhaust done. I've got a few bits of spare exhaust from over the years that I intend using along with the Apexi to make a custom exhaust out of to give me lots of clearance. Slip joints, no boxes, custom mounts etc etc I will tuck these Minervas..which are in the country.

Got the FMIC mounted up. Was pretty straight forward with no real cutting other than the chassis legs and a bumper trim, oh and the usual pipe work jigsaw/head scratching moment. Cut the bumper out to suit as well, think it looks pretty good.

Rear wing showed up snapped in half... which was fucking annoying, especially when they're rare.

Exhaust also turned up this week:

http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/JunctionTwelve/14841387-F986-430D-B919-D323D53B256D_zps3g29mqxp.jpg (http://s1139.photobucket.com/user/JunctionTwelve/media/14841387-F986-430D-B919-D323D53B256D_zps3g29mqxp.jpg.html)

Taking it to the fabricator tomorrow to rejoin it where it was cut (for shipping from Japan). Whilst there the center box will be cut out along with flange joints and the spare bit of exhaust I have here will replace. Maximum clearance ahead.

Replacing the broken roof wing isn't going so well, bid on another and it sold for TWICE what I paid for mine. With that in mind I fitted the broken one for now, to be fair you cant even see where it's broke once mounted.

Anyway on to driving and shit...went out to have a go with the new diff after putting a few miles on it 1st (was being cautious since I built it) and seems to have picked up a knock. I'm hoping the 2ways just killed some old bushes somewhere but it only seems to do it after selecting a gear, doesn't seem to do it coming off and on throttle. Also seems to have axle tramp as well. I'll have to inspect it next weekend.

Oh and this is happening..

Not selling them for a while unless I hate them mounted, sorry man. The other set I'm looking at aren't quite as good but 18/19 which I'm eager to try out.

There's a few sets that could be re-lipped on upgarage.

So after getting half way through the tear down to inspect the diff I found a massive amount of grease coming from one of the drive shafts. I have some replacements on the way so have left the diff in place. Hopefully this was the problem/noise, if not at least I'll have some spare shafts.

While I'm waiting on those I set to work on the rear arches with the roller. Obviously they won't be left like this as I still need to loose a fair bit of camber once I get the arms sorted, for now though it'll do.

Unfortunately my drive shafts not here still due to this bull shit weather, a few other bits have made it though:

Last piece of the exhaust puzzle, HPI all in one elbow de-cat down pipe.

I'm pretty excited to hear what this new setup will sound like.

Also picked up some more Vienna Courage's, yes they're 18/19, no I don't care and no they probably wont fit but they were too cheap to miss out on.

^it's really trivial to how great this thread is but got me curious. I just thought it was a bit odd that the speed limit sign reminds me of an American one. I guess it could be in the Navy base or somewhere based on the palm trees in the back (okinawa base is gone now but..).

19's don't fit even after a hefty roll/pull. They'd go in if I put a smaller tyre on them but only just, I also need to loose like 3deg of camber too so they would be an issue again. Looks like they'll be sold on.

http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/JunctionTwelve/19AEFB48-23E5-4D18-8733-C4DD7DE192B1_zpslrtdzjst.jpg (http://s1139.photobucket.com/user/JunctionTwelve/media/19AEFB48-23E5-4D18-8733-C4DD7DE192B1_zpslrtdzjst.jpg.html)

Then the absolute ballache that was getting the exhaust fitted, just getting the old elbow off was an absolute c*nt to be honest. Bolted up the new HPI elbow/down pipe easy enough and bolted that to the custom system nice an easy. New exhaust has awesome clearance I'm thinking, until I get to the back

http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/JunctionTwelve/D2D45106-2BB1-479E-9AA2-B0E7B6019256_zpsahhmkwkh.jpg (http://s1139.photobucket.com/user/JunctionTwelve/media/D2D45106-2BB1-479E-9AA2-B0E7B6019256_zpsahhmkwkh.jpg.html)

Hmm cool.

Not really sure how that happened when the rest fits so well but I guess that's the risk you run doing it off the car. Anyway fuck it I thought, start it up and at least see what it sounds like, battery is penis, booster pack it, alarm goes off flat out and drains the booster. Perfect.

Got the spare drive shaft on in the vain hope that it's whats causing the knocking noise today. I'm pretty certain in my mind it's still the diff but it's worth a shot 1st. Couldn't be arsed to put the exhaust back on just to test it because it needs to be cut up to get it angled right anyway.

Also removed the 19's and fitted the other 18" Courages though, should look good once the rears are chromed or polished.

Haven't really had much progress with this due to time really.

The exhaust is back and perfect:

http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/JunctionTwelve/DAC14CD0-3B16-4E8C-9313-EBA44107252F_zpsa3x6iqtc.jpg

Took for a quick test to see if the new shaft had stopped the knocking noise:

http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/JunctionTwelve/15A89891-8549-42FD-B3B0-10ABF579D74F_zpsnvavbc1b.jpg (http://s1139.photobucket.com/user/JunctionTwelve/media/15A89891-8549-42FD-B3B0-10ABF579D74F_zpsnvavbc1b.jpg.html)

I couldn't really go far due to the front wheel fitment not being right but I couldn't hear the noise. Still needs a good drive when the front setup is right.

My Minerva's finally showed up

http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/JunctionTwelve/493518DD-76EE-4085-92A2-63DCCB5BA29D_zpsaztjhzck.jpg (http://s1139.photobucket.com/user/JunctionTwelve/media/493518DD-76EE-4085-92A2-63DCCB5BA29D_zpsaztjhzck.jpg.html)

18x9 18x10 +37 LO/SL

I had intended putting the front LO disc faces in the rear lips/barrels but they don't clear my brakes. They would of ended up being too aggressive like this after spacing so today I put the faces into the 9.5 Courage's. That gives me 9.5 +20 after spacing which is perfect (same as the XT's). I think I'll put the rear faces into the other Courage's I have for now too, polish up the faces of all of them and then build the Minerva's up with new lips over the winter.

No not yet, it's a way off right now though. I know Stuart Leask had a nice one made by a friend of his of sensible money. I also had someone offer to make one for me but he would only do T4.

Loving the build. These cars are fun but can be a headache.

Some subframe bushing inserts will solve the axle hop you're getting.

Not sure what you have in there now but Cusco sways are night and day difference for bringing the car to life. Such a heavy car anyway.

When I lowered mine, I blew an axle boot in like a week or so. Maybe coincidence but just keep an eye on them as it seems they don't like camber or being low.

6Boost in Australia was making manifolds for these a while back. Haven't looked at JZX stuff for a couple years but the Aussie dudes swore by them.

That picture was taking on base somewhere. Real Japanese speed limit signs are nothing like that. The car is Y plate as well so it's a SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement; i.e. an American associated with base) person's car. And Okinawa still has eight (?) American military bases with like 30,000 military personnel.

The issue turned out to be a drive shaft, every thing is ok now. I have Locking collars on the subframe.

Not much has been done to this as I've decided to sell it on at some stage, intentions are to pick up a mkii 100 or 110...depending on which I finally decide I prefer. I love this car but my heart was always with the mkii so it needs to be done.

If a sale goes through then the only things I'll keep are the rear Minervas and mirrors. The whole idea behind a trade in is to firstly get what my heart wants but also to get something with a big spec. Importing everything sucks.

Headlight, hood, and bumper dimensions look to be the same the only thing i could see being different is the corner lights.

I really dig the mark ii rear but the chaser front.
