I've been working on this project for some time. I thought it would be up and running today but looks like not until tomorrow. Here's a couple pics I snapped today before the hot pipe and downpipe were finished. I'll have the rest tomorrow:

is that a DIY manifold? the turbo looks goofy angled like that.
Got any pics of the whole car?

Hard to tell in the pic with the manifold off but the wastegate and turbo do form a "Y" right off the manifold, looks straight in the pic... Anyway here's my setup:
Z31 T3
Tial 38MM .5 spring (re-routed)
JGS manifold
Type s BOV
safc-II
sr injectors (370's)
Starion IC
Walbro 190 pump
PLX-300 wideband
Omori boost and oil psi gauges
Apexi N1 dual
3" downpipe/catco cat
I'll have much better pics and a more info on how it runs tomorrow.

"Goofy"?? Making it angled allowed me to have a much straighter intake pipe and looks pretty nice in my opinion..... It looks much better all together.

Thanks man, I'm hoping more people up in Maine start turboing there 240's, but there aren't many 240's up here to begin with. We're starting my friends setup on his 95 in a week or 2 as well so there'll be another.....

Well still not done completely.... damn job takes up all my time... my friend was able to finish up the downpipe and charge pipes for me today though. Looks like I won't have time to start her up and tune until saturday though. Here's a pic of the downpipe with the re-route done.....
downpipe and reroute (http://www.imagestation.com/mypictures/inbox/view.html?id=4176472744&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.imagestation.com%2Fpicture%2F sraid113%2Fpf2e9f9fc57d5f22fbc44db072bf87c0f%2Ff8e feaa8.jpg&caption=upper%20dp)
Had to make it 2 piece to be able to install it. We painted it with high temp paint just to keep it from rusting. Function over fashion....

where did u get the T3? how much was it? How about the downpipe? was it custom?

nice looking downpipe you have there...
Im in my last stage of gathering turbo parts... the one thing that will have to be custom made is my downpipe and intercooler pipings...
edit: btw.. where did you get that flex pipe? local muffler shop?

I got the turbo used for 100$, it's a t3 from a Z31. Instead of using the stock elbow that is on the turbo with the internal gate we scrapped it for a Tial external so we could top mount the turbo. (can't clock that T3 if you use the internal gate and stock elbow). The hardest part about that is you cannot find a flange that bolts to the NIssan 6 bolt compressor, so we cut our own out of half inch steel with a plasma cutter and cut the 3" exhaust flanges out of 3/8" steel. Everything done on this is custom basically. my friend and I bought a welder and designed all the piping, and bought the log manifold kit from JGS.. The large flex joint I purchased through ATPturbo for like 35$, and the smaller one on the WG bypass at the local VIP for like 17$.. I may have some more pics today if I can get outta work early.

Stick a pair of O2 sensor bungs in there while you're at it.

Yeah I know..... Actually 3. I Have a wideband as well. Ran out of gas with only the 02 bungs left.

This is very useful. The T3 I have came off an XR4Ti and the exhaust pipe that comes off the turbine is at and angle that won;t allow me to top mount the turbo, I'd have to make the manifold come out then turn up and back toward the engine block. That's cool you made your own flang then welded a pipe on that bastard. Good Job.

Can you clock the turbo while still using the internal gate? The z31 turbos can't be clocked with the stock gate and use the weird 6 bolt that's also on mercedes turbo setups. My friend will be using the same turbo on his setup as you, I'll have to take a look at his.

The wastgate is able to be moved around the compressor housing but the wastgate door is a part of the cast iron exhaust piece. That's cool your buddy is doing the same turbo, could you please look at it and let me know what my options are? Thanks man.

I'll take a look as soon as he comes home again from college. It does sound like you will either need to bottom mount the turbo if you want to retain the internal gate or just do what i did and ditch it and go external. Depends on what you want to spend I guess. Is there a particular reason you want to top mount it? I had planned to bottom mount mine even with the external gate but it wasn't allowing we to get as much of a "Y" off the manifold that i wanted by mounting the gate on top. (it would have made the intake for the turbo point straight at the distributor)

I found the plate on JGSTools website for the exhaust side. I guess you just weld a pipe onto that plate to hook up your downpipe, right? I don't think it will even work bottom mounted because the outlet still point toward the engine block and the DP would have to a snake bend type of thing, plus it would look cooler on top. :)
w00t! w00t! Rockin the KA-T! Same as im doin. But im actually thinking of goin with a t3/t4 hybrid turbo. Nice job meng! :coold: Thats cool you did all the custom work yourself. I just need to teach myself how to do that  When you plan on puttin it up on a dyno? Let us know the #s!

Yeah you can get the 5 bolt flange anywhere almost. There is plenty of room for you to bottom mount the turbo, it would make no difference on the downpipe or anythign else. The only difference would be how it looks. I think if you want to top mount yours then you'll have to go external gate or get a different turbo. You can find used gates all over the place, or look for deals, I got mine new for 200 shipped from some special they had on the Honda tech forums. :coolugh:

My friend was really the biggest help. I came to him with the plan and bought him a better welder to help me with the welding. PLus he already has a bunch of dope tools and a lot of experience from building Honda turbo setups. I can't wait to help my other friend on his as well. We've done a hell of a lot of cutting and grinding and I'm almost upset that it's done. We're gonna try and tune on saturday, there's a dyno about 4 miles from my house so maybe will hit that up as well. I may go with a hybrid as well by the end of the season, right now I'm working on a equal length runner manifod design for us to make out of stainless.
