View Full Version : Why do I have boost problems after 15 minutes of driving each day?

I can't seem to find any threads with a similar problem as mine. My setup currently consists of a redtop sr, stock turbo, autometer vacuum/boost & water temp gauges, fmic, turboxs high performance boost controller. Now my 1st drive each day, my 12psi setting is perfect until about 15 minutes after reaching normal operating temperature, it just goes to stock 7psi. Even if my 1st drive is during the warmest time of the day, I seem to only hit 12psi in those 1st 15 minutes, every drive until the next day, it stays at 7psi. I haven't found any leaks, my vacuum reads 20Hg at idle and 0Hg when the car is off, my HKS SSQV bov is not leaking, all hoses are secured with hose clamps. What could be causing the problem, boost controller, actuator, boost gauge? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Humm im no expert in turbo engine but ill try
When you take your car for the first time in the day , its cold .. so everything is fine. The combustion chamber is cold and the intake charge too. When the car warm up, the combustion chamber become too hot and the compressed air too. Combustion is happening sooner cause of the poor octane rating and hotter intake charge , so your computer play with some setting to save your ass.
maybe im wrong.. hope you find out !
goodluck

what boost controller are you using?I'm using the Turbo XS High Performance boost controller, like yours. I'm not actually sure if you have the same one, mine has 2 adjustments, one for coarse and one for fine adjustments. I think I actually got my boost problem under control. I swapped boost gauges thinking it was an innaccurate gauge, but it wasn't, my 2nd gauge gave the same readings. Though, I did mess around with the fine adjustment screw on the controller and it seems to be hitting 12psi again but it falls off around redline, which I heard is normal. Anyway, I gotta go out for another drive later tonight just to make sure I got it working properly.

well let us know the resultsWell, I just got back from driving around for about an hour messing with the fine adjustment screw on the controller. I guess I didn't open up the fine adjustment screw enough and it was causing lots of turbo lag where it wouldn't go above stock boost. I opened it up by a few turns and everything is much better now. It now holds at 11psi until redline where it tapers off to like 9. I guess I got it now.
