Hello everyone,

For my KA24E-T sleeper/OEM-appearing setup I'll be using stock a SR20DET air box, SMIC plumping, and KA24E/CA18ET Frankenstein bottom mount manifold with heatshield with a T25. What I'm stuck on is what I'll doing for the intercooler.

Apart from the obvious SMIC, I first looked into turn-flow intercoolers (such as ones made by ARC). While these seem great, they're rare and ones I have found from old threads weren't cheap either! They're not readily available, they're not something that can easily be found for sale at any given moment and when you do the condition of it can drastically vary.

The next thing I decided was to look for a 'new' option I could purchase easily. This of which I was availbe to find very quickly after just visiting GKTECH (http://www.GKtech.com)

While it looks great, it's VERY pricey. It's advertised for $599.01 AUD which at current exchange rates is $623.81 USD and that's excluding shipping costs! This is not an affordable option.

At this point I was starting to look at SMIC and trying to consider that route but after a lot more research and mostly thinking, I didn't want to settle for it. So what I took as a last resort was searching eBay. I did find a few "same-side" FMIC's but none in the states and then I stopped myself thinking it was silly to justify buying an eBay intercooler I know nothing about nor have heard anything good about.

After this I was seeking for advice or a solution. The people I spoke with on KA-T.org, while interested on the matter, didn't have much to say. And finally after a while somebody from a FB s-chassis group mentioned using an RB20DET intercooler and making it work with the SR20DET SMIC plumbing. Sounds great!

TLDR

I've tried finding pictures and detailed info about using a "same-side" FMIC from a RB20DET with SR20DET SMIC plumbing but nothing really comes up.
That is now where I'm left off...

How do I go about doing this? Who's done it? Where are there pictures? What is needed to make this work? Etc.

And also, what are some other possible setups I can do? Anyone care to share something they've done? Creative solutions would be great!
Keep in mind, must be using SR20DET SMIC piping. That's the overall and main goal.

Any great info/links/pics I'll be putting in the original post to make it easier for future searches as I've searched and Google'd things many times only to spend a lot of timing skimming pages upon pages for answers.

Have you checked out CX racing? I was using one of their one sided fmic's, but my photobucket doesn't agree with me today so I can't pull it up.

I too have done some research on this as I will be doing pretty much the exact same setup as you. I found an ARC front mount replica like the one you posted for sale that can be shipped from Australia. Its priced at $349 AUD plus shipping, Here’s the link

Just Jap Auto Imports (http://justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=20649&cat=339&page=1)

It is identical, stealthy black, and pretty much straight bolt on. I was gonna save up and get one but came up on a authentic ARC one lol. Hope this helps you.

You want it to be a sleeper but you are gonna put an intercooler in the front?

My buddy used a cooler from a (supercharged?) mustang or something, check summit racing. It was thicker than an OEM SMIC and about 2" taller and 2" wider. It should fit in the same spot as the OG SMIC but you will need custom piping...

How much boost are you gonna be running?

If I was running <7lbs I would ditch the intercooler entirely for a much simpler setup, which would give better response as well. As long as your cooling system is in check you'd be fine. But that's just my :2c:
