I have a s13coupe that was just in a minor fender bender in a parking lot(others fault) Her insurance is goin to cover it, or total my car. Im guessing they will total it if the damage is anywhere close to the value of my car. My question is if it ends up being totaled, should i buy it back and replace the bumper and fender keeping the salvage, or settle for less money and keep the clean title? tia

I say keep it, but I would check with your insurance companies and ask them what their rules are regarding salvage titles. Do they insure salvage titles? Is there a difference in premiums? So on and so on. But if it's just a minor fender bender, it's usually a very easy fix, so I recommend keep it if you want your car. Otherwise take the money and put it towards a new car.

if you have desires to sell it later don't let it become salvage title. Of course if they are going to give you a nice sum it might be worth doing . I know someone who has a 92 SE hatch no sunroof that got hit in the front and they totalled the car for 3k . He paid $2500 for it a year ago. he is keeping it and putting on Silvia front end. If you plan on keeping this car then let it get a salvage and run with the cash put a Silvia front end on it.

doesn't matter, car is worth nothing, so salvage it, buy it back and use the car as your beater/track car

take a little less, if its a minor fender bender, and they are going to salvage it, you could probably get enough money to do an silvia front end conversion.

try to keep the clean title, because in some places if it gets a salvage title you have to bring it back up to stock spec before you can even put it back on the road.

there is another way check your state laws but i know here if a car with a salvage title changes hands a given amount of times outside of a family it will lose it's salvage status look into it might be worth your time

It already has the silvia front end on it, and i only need a fender, bumper and head light support, nothing major, and Im guessing insurance would care less if i carry just liability for it. And how much do salvage title s13's go for w/ minor mods. I may just put the money toward a clean title car/shell.

my insurance wanted to total my car so I just took the value they said would total it. It was right at that line, like 1200 would total it, so she wrote it up at 1150 worth of damage.

Uhh thats a question only you can answer for yourself. I say keep the car, and jus tell em to give u less then what it would cost to total it. Or total it, buy it back, and use the money to get another one. If you wherent that far in mods, it wouldnt be a big lose, unless you have centimental memories in it.

well see in my case if they totaled it I would have got 1200. So they didn't total it, and I got 1100 (minus 300 deductible) and then I sold it with the dents for 800.
So I did OK on that one, and used the money to buy a 1600 dollar car.
its not in the same mechanical shape that my old one was though, I put so much money into replacement parts on that car...
*sighs*
owning a car is a liability.

i don't know about your laws, but here when you get a salvage title on the car you have to take it to a government certified facility. They put the car on a unibody machine and see if the frame is within the "safe" tollerances. And even if it is, i've had a t-bird fail because it had a minor dent on the fram rail, it looked as if somone had taken a ballpean hamer and hit it.

So check your laws, we kept the car and are swapping the parts to my former project car. Then i'll see what can be done about the slavage title...the funny thing about the title was the insurance company gave it because they found out about the SR. It was in good shape too, only minor drift damage

personally if my car had a salvaged title i would not keep it..but a minor fender bender should be coo...depending on the condition of everything

in my state anytime the insurance pays out more than the book value of the car it is given an "R title" which means rebuildable. So in the case of a really shitty car, stupid shit like denting a door in can total it and give you the R title.
As far as you owning it, it shouldn't make a difference to you. Only time it matters is when its time to sell it. And to be honest, its such an old car I really don't see it making much difference.
