Someone wants to pay me to fix his motor mounts and strut mounts...can i fill them with silicone if they are ripped or does that not work? its a 1996 toyota avalon but i figured a motor mount is a motor mount, 240sx or whatever.

3m window bond, i think that is what you're looking for

not window bond, window weld. and make sure you get the right kind.
i think it's the 'super fast urethane' you need or something like that. iirc SCC used it on one of their project cars.. the SE-R Spec V i think.

how well does this work? so do you basicly just jack up the motor and squirt some of that stuff into the cracks?

are new motor mounts THAT expensive?

it's more a matter of the urethane being THAT cheap.
it's best to have the mounts out of the car when you do them. transmission mount seemed to be helped most by it.
One of the motor mounts ended up breaking (top piece came off) when i pulled the engine last. oops. guess i'll have to spring for aftermarket mounts in japan.

silicon is crap..
what you guys need is professional polyurethane adhesive
no dumbass, you dont do it while its still in the car.
the entire mounts need to be remove and FULLY degreased and cleaned. once dry, fill the bitches with urethane. usually takes days to a week to fully cure.
why do people do this? because new OEM mounts are pricey, NISMO mounts are pricey, aftermarket mounts are pricey.. and because this requires nothing more than time and a couple bucks.
