looking for some prices that any of you may have recently paid to have a clutch replaced on your SOHC specifically or DOHC for reference...
please separate parts and labor if possible...
any additional info you have and feel is relevant is also greatly appreciated..
so far in my calls to different shops it seems like a damn pricey fix..
thanks everyone!

Well the Spec Stage 1 clutch is only like $270.
I can't remember what the shop quoted for labor though.

thanks man, but i don't want anything nice at this point..
i can find the clutch online...Exedy Clutch Kit for $133.45...pretty damn cheap...but i'm getting quoted stuff like $350-$400 in labor...just seemed kinda high to me...then again i've never done a clutch on these cars before...
sooooo i was just hoping for someone to ease my mind and tell me yeah, time to bed over and take it...lol...

7. disconnect all the sensors
8. unbolt master cylinder
9. unbolt all the other bolts and drop the tranny
10. replace throwout bearing
11. remove clutch assembly
12. replace pilot bushing
13. replace flywheel( make sure its resurfaced )
14. install clutch and use the alignment tool
15. install the pressure plate and make sure everything is torqued down
16. benchpress the tranny in sideways or upsidedown and work it in there then sping it rightside up and push it all the way in. then start bolting everything back up
if you need more pics and stuff go to 240sx.org under install section

a clutch job on my old car (93 camry) was like 700 dollars, including parts. 350-400 sounds pretty normal to me (maybe a bit on the high side). DYI takes time.

thanks guys!..
yeah...my thoughts / fears were that it was an accurate estimate...oh wells..what can ya do...
i'd do it myself, as i'm sure i've done technically harder jobs before (read: engine swaps, head gaskets, etc..)...but right now i just don't have the time or energy for this sort of undertaking...not to mention the technical knowledge of transmissions...
time to be broke again...lol...

time and energy i can definitely understand. you really don't need that much knowledge with transmissions. if you tackled tough jobs before then i say this probably isn't beyond you. the 240sx.org write up is very good, and it has accompanying pictures. check it out! maybe you'll decide its worth the $$$ you save.

dude just take this bit of advice NOT mentioned in the write up....
When you go to put the trans back up in the car....take a flat block of wood, put it on a jack, then jack your motor up on the oil pan just an inch or however much play you have in the mounts (you will know when to stop, its not much).
THEN try putting the trans up. It took me about an hour if not more to get the damn thing in the first time i did it. Holding the bell housing with a jack under the shifter and wiggled my ass off on the ground, i thought it was never going to go back in. Next time i dropped it...someone recommended doing the jack thing....took me all of 5 minutes to get it up and get the bolts in. It gives you the correct position for the bell housing to mount

i forgot to mention that. Jack up the cross member under the motor with a block of wood, it will make things soo much easier.

could anyone please explain in detail how to replace the throwout bearing? I am looking at this thing on my vice and can't think of how to properly do it...
