anyone have experiences with various aluminum "racejacks"??
I know Grant broke his Powerbuilt one at DD14...
i was looking into the Craftsman one, i think its on sale now for $100, regular is $200
Arcan has one for about $500
and other various companies range from 150-1300

most of them have a minimun lifting point at 3.25-3.5" to 17-19.5" max height, average about 35lbs and with handles for easy lugging around...
I checked out craftsman aluminum jack bout 200 dollars. I drops rather fast when you turn the stick to lower it; seemed a bit dangerous for me. Might want to check it out before you buy it.

It would be so nice to have one of those at the track. Everybody I know uses the autozone $20 special that dents frame rails like nothing. $100 is an awesome price for an aluminum jack. Where can you get it for that much? I wish I could take my normal jack with me but I can barely lift that thing myself so it stays in the garage.

I use the HF jack to.. been using it for about 1 year. It creaks, and pops now, and is difficult to let down slow. Sometimes I wish it raised the car higher, but only when I'm using it in the garage. At the track it works perfect for everything I could possibly need it for.
They also come with auto bleeder valves. Simply pump the handle a few times with the handle un-locked, and walaa.. 6.5 pumps to full height.
I've read about a couple people's saddles breaking b/c they lifted with the front edge of the saddle, but I think that is just stupid users there.. wtf are you using only the front edge of an ALUMINUM jack saddle...
For the money, I would most certainly buy another if I had to do it again.
Cliffs notes: HF Jack makes great Track jack, and light duty garage jack.

For the money, buy 2 :p
I'm still stuck with my 3ton (weights 3tons just about) garage jack.... but my uncle just blew the jack in his shop so i'm trying to get him to trade if he buys me a couple HF jacks :D

Using the HF jack....99 bucks.
You get what you pay for. I would be much happier with a proper AL jack that actually lifts the car to full height in 3 pumps AND has a low saddle height so I could lift my stock car without having to cram the jack under the car.
The HF jack is good for the track to change tires, but as a shop jack its not cut out for the job.

So what is the lowest, reasonable priced, race jack out there?

The HF jack is the cheapest low race jack there is.
I agree it doesn't make a good shop jack. too quirky. It works fine for light duty, and you can definately get by with it as your only jack..
3 pumps to full height is way fast, and requires a LOT of force. My 120lb roommate can hang off the jack pole on some cars when trying to use my HF jack and it not go down. lol.
This is my dream shop jack:

the AC Hydraulics DK13HLQ.
3.15" saddle height. (remains under 4" for the first 16" of reach)
29" max lift height
2800lb max (dutch standards dictate that it must be able to lift 3x the advertised weight safely, so no worries there. lol)
Polypropelene two hand handle
There is a "Dead man" safety. Handle must be "pulled" and "turned" to lower. I hear lowering actuation is very smooth and controlable.

I've seen that jack before. That thing is so sweet. I have to drive my car onto little 2x4s to get my car high enough to get my shop jack under the front bumper. It's a pretty low jack too. You can buy it at Costco for like $80. Heavy as shit though. I call it the earth mover. In a few weeks I'm going to make myself some of those super low car ramps out of aluminum so I don't have to use the blocks anymore.

I think I have the same one. It's like a SUV jack. My other jack got destroyed by my dad's Previa. Now that my car is low, I have to drive my car up onto stuff too and even then I have to lift from the front tow hooks to raise the corners.
Snap on makes a low profile jack. A snap-on rep comes by my work about 3 times a week, or damn, maybe more actually. I'll ask him about it. I'll probably just get the craftsman one.
