I am travelling to southern China next month for a business trip and will be going through Hong Kong, to Shenzhen and Dongguan.

Anything interesting that I should consider bringing back from there? I know it's not Japan, and I am not too interested in knock off parts.

Anybody?

Parts in Hongkong are not inexpensive. I have been to many shops in HK as well as Chop shops but prices were sky high. I was told I need to bring "Locals" to low ball basically.

Have you been there before?

Shenzhen is counterfeit heaven for sure..

Nothing don't bother looking at car scene there... Its pretty dead nowadays because of the heavy fines of street racing and immediate insurance drop if caught with modification.

Maybe British Motorcycle helmet, other than that nothing...

Dongguan is like where the hookers are. You can get EVERYTHING there... other than that is pretty meh... Enjoy yourself and site see....

Certainly I have been to Shenzhen, Dongguan and HK before. My work includes collaboration with our staff and supply chain in China, as well as other Asian countries.

That said, I have never sought out what is there for S13 goodies.

I know Shenzhen is counterfeit heaven, especially for electronics, since I am involved in the electronics manufacturing industry as a legit manufacturer--not a knock off criminal.

I have local Shenzhen electronics sourcing staff I could appeal to for this, but this would be outside their realm of expertise.

I know that Hong Kong isn't cheap for things other than car parts. I don't typically spend a lot of time there. During my last trip through APAC I spend a day or so in Hong Kong and found it to be much more expensive than southern China, Korea or Vietnam, but that isn't surprising.

Overall, I think that hunting around in China for legit parts in southern China will take more time and attention than it's worth. I just thought I would inquire to the Zilvia community to see if there was something I didn't know...

Yea just the life there in HK and other areas is just really not conducive to the car industry. I am from there and its sad to see people who really enjoyed cars to be basically priced out of the aftermarket car industry. Its really dwindled down a lot....

Maybe you can make it over to Macau or Thailand, you might have better chances of getting something cool, but in general 240s are so old, they've all gone to heaven in those places... Nothing but Honda's and newer gen cars.....

Have fun though and take pictures!

I will take pictures, but they are typically related to work. I don't usually think of trips to Southern China as anything but a means to an end; being work.

I haven't ever hopped over to Macau even though the ferry ride isn't long.

Yep ! it's only about an hour long with ferry and it sure is different place.
Gambling does not get me much attention since we have casinos in states but their old building structures are very interesting there.

and of course they have the best Egg Tarts !!!!

Should try to go if you get some extra time.

I frequenty visit Hong Kong at least once a year. ( parents live there)

Unfortunately... the used car scene is pretty scarce. you wont find used car shops or even many tuner shops even in Hong Kong. A lot of the used car lots were you can find skylines, silvia, etc are in the provinces away from the actual city..

you can find cool little nic nacs like bubble shift knows, suicide steering wheel knobs, broadway mirrors... And I cam across a TOMS shop that had some cool stuff like new wheels, and toyota parts.. but nothing like up garage.

Shits either all now stuff at prices close to US or Used crap at insane prices. Its nothing like Japan.

Sorry. ( i was just as disappointed)

MACUA is basically the ASIA Vegas. Its worth the trip.

If you want a cool place to chill next to a beach with bars, Stanley Market.

Interesting...didn't know many zilvians go there/are from there. My parents are from there too and I'm going back this summer, cant wait. But yeah, a lot of people already summed it up. There isnt much to get there if any. I tried last summer...total fail.

It's probably only a good place to get...air fresheners. And like ZX88 said, just a bunch of small things. Most of those small little shops are in Mong Kok. All I ended up buying was a Junction Produce sunscreen. Lots of fake things too, saw a handful of fake defi gauges and fake hks turbo timers etc.

The bigger, well known tuner shops don't have much parts either for older cars like ours, or stock too many parts in general. They only deal with GT-R's, GT3's, and other baller new cars. Theyre mostly special ordered. I kinda felt stupid walking into one asking for ANY S13 parts lol.

I only saw ONE S13 there during my one month stay.

Another place to drink and for some night life is Lan Kwai Fong of course, but its a touristy place.
