I just put a new head gasket in, new water pump, new heater core hoses.
When the block was out I took it to the self car wash and blasted it with the pressure washer to make sure the passages were clear.
The radiator I'm using is an aftermarket one, it looks to be dual core, cooled with 1 electric fan.
So here is the story.
I put everything together and put the thermostat in and found out that it would overheat merely by idling in the garage for 10 minutes. I pulled the jiggle valve out and tried again, the same thing happened. Got a new thermostat and the same thing happened. I put the 2 thermostats in a pot of boiling water and they both opened up as they should. when the stats were in the upper hose would get warm but the radiator and lower hose would be cool.
So, from there I just ran without a thermostat and it sort of fixed the problem. It'll drive for a good length of time without overheating. But the new problem is that on the highway the temp needle will climb to the point where its almost overheating (it would probably overheat but I shut it off before then). But the strange thing is that if I pull off the highway and just city drive it cools off.
This leads me to think that it could be a radiator problem. Possibly there are bent fins or some of the passages are blocked.
What do you think?
