Finally I'm done...here is some pics of my S14 tail lamp mod w/ LEDS. The LEDS makes a nice 3 line effect from an angle...plus IMO give the tail lamps a more modern look/style. For more pics visit my site below and go to Articles/DIY. Let me know what you think.

Are you talking about Mike from clear corners? I wanted to have them do it but it was too much for me...I wanted to give it a shot myself. I will say that I wouldn't mind a set from clear corners though.

is the website supposed to look professional?
is that car supposed to look good?
is that headlamp modification supposed to BETTER the OEM S14 headlamp performance?
i will leave it to you guys to answer these questions, since of course.. we all have our own view of what we like and what we do not. all i can say is that if i had an s14, i would never perform ANY of those modifications to my car.
i think the tail lights perform as good as they look. sorry.

i don't think anyone asked you what you thought about the website. to me, you just sound like you are critizing it because he could be your possible competitor.
is that car supposed to look good?
does it look that bad to you? the car is not outrageously ricy or anything, and it looks fairly clean
is that headlamp modification supposed to BETTER the OEM S14 headlamp performance?
no, but who cares. if it looks better, then it might be good enough for him. some people just don't care THAT much about their headlamps' "performance" as long as they see fine at night.

The thread is about his tail-lights, not about critiques on other peoples comments on the tail-lights. I mean really, WTH did you expect from Mike? He's a friggin lighting perfectionist.
btw - I agree with the space heater comment.. Looks like I could get my hands toasty warm!

i dont kno about the design myself but that fact u got out there and did it yourself and got it to come out as clean as it did deserves some props

The thread is about his tail-lights
i definitely give the guy props for doing the taillights himself, and maybe i don't like the design, but i definitely respect the work put in and the skills it took. That's why when he was saying that the website wasn't professional, "is the car suppose to look good?" and how the headlights aren't good, i felt like i should say something, because as you said, this thread is about his taillights, not his website or even his headlights.

if you're going to build something, build something nice.
or maybe its...
if you dont have anything good to say, dont say it at all? right?
but thats not the case, this is a forum and people like to talk and criticise because thats just the way shit works.. so often times, you put politeness aside and just tell it like it is.
this is nothing personal with the owner of that car OR the creator of the tail lights, i dont care if its "possible competition" or not -- it has nothing to do with that. my negativity doesnt come from me hating competition.. if someone wants to compete, hey.. its an open market, go ahead and build something. I am content in the products I sell and people appreciate them, if they dont.. they dont, if they do.. cool.. it really doesnt make a difference to me what people think because i am confident that the stuff i sell hands down looks as good as it performs.
the above lights look interesting.. great that you practiced making something. is it road worthy? not for my taste, not for my car.
some of you guys are new to car modding and just like things for being different. what do you want me to say, i'm just telling it like it is. if something rocks, hands down it fucking rocks. if it sucks, .. well.. it just does. im not going to praise something that looks WORSE than stock. I am not going to say "cool headlight" when its got no lighting pattern.

I don't like the LED tails personally, but I can see why some people would. Good job. I'm interested in the headlight conversions to get rid of my ugly yellow ones. Is there any text to go with the pictures? The clear replacement covers look good. Where do you get those? The Skyline R32 conversion is interesting, but I haven't seen one yet with perfect alignment, and that would bother me more than my yellows. Please post more info here or on your website.

why dont you guys focus on either cleaning and polishing your headlamps, OR, possibly going with a 97-98 upgrade?
if you're seriously stuck on wanting the 95-96 front end, you CAN upgrade it to projectors and what not.. just put in the work.
the factory plastic is not bad.. its not FANTASTIC.. but there's no sense in changing it for a lens that lacks definition. the 95-96 headlamps can STAY clear if you clean them and maintain them. some of you guys are just lazy when it comes to upkeep. i can already tell you that the clear lens you guys are drooling over is kinda shitty.. because i've seen it in person when i was at TAS this year and it was mediocre to say the least. but its okay, put it on the road and lets see how resiliant it is to rocks, debri, UV, and weathering.

Thanks for the info on the clear lenses. I've wondered if they would turn ugly over time like stock ones. I took my stock lenses apart, cleaned, wet sanded, and polished them until they were sparkling clear. After 4 months they are turning yellow again :( Yea, I'm too lazy to go through that every year. Plus I worry that if I open and close them too many times, they'll stat to leak moisture. I'm still trying to find glass Euros.

he's right. my headlamps started out super yellow. i bought some 3m wax/tarnish/whatever remover and started cleaning it whenever i was out with the car (much to the consternation of my girlfriend). that helped a little so i went ahead and bought some 3m scratch remover/repolisher. the difference is amazing. it only looks yellow from extreme angles (need to pop the headlights out and get the sides, top and bottom.) i've been doing it whenever i have 5 minutes and the difference is really showing (maybe 2 weeks now). 3m cleaner, 3m scratch remover.
total cost = $10 and a really dirty t-shirt rag. if you want to get it super nice and polished there is more you can do. there was a thread about supra lights where the guy heated them and repolished them or something. save yourself some $$$ and try cleaning them before you do some crazy conversion. btw my lighting has also improved dramatically... yes they were THAT dirty. the stock headlights actually look pretty nice.
as for the LED tails, they look okay - props for doing ur own work. i don't like how they split into lines; reminds me of mustang tails. i also don't like the centerpiece but that's just me. i'm a big fan of the original s14 tail. enjoy your lights. :)

you guys dont need to wet sand or take them apart.. the yellowing happens on the OUTSIDE of the lens.
just polish them with plastic polish.. novus sells high quality polish

JdM kouki tails are the same as usdm....
Mike, If he had the glass headlights or whatever he used, and added projectors, would that fix the lighting output problem? I know it wont be perfect but it would help some right? Thanks.

How can you say JDM lights are the same as the USDM ones? They are totaly different. How? the JDm ones are more expensive. Duh :)

theyre not the same
the last light bulb in the red reflector on jdm is filled plastic, not open for light socket on the usdm ones, nissan logo is different, and the the ridges on the center peices are more distinct

i want to know how to diy for the r32 headlamps!! gotta rebracket that shit from the car on the site though. i'm pretty sure it would sit more "straight." i would use some kind of rubber shit or something that flexes to straighten the light first and then mold/bend some kinda bracket

I know the site is bad...I don't have time to keep it up w/ graphics/etc. It will be up for special ordered parts. Maybe when I have time off work I will try to fix it..but for 2 hours of work...it will stay the say it is.

honestly, all i want to say is that if you have a love and passion for what you are doing -- do it. i like to talk smack and joke around on here, but the reality is if you are trying to SELL what you displayed.. you have a LONG way to go before you can offer that as a finished product.
its one thing to tinker around and make things for yourself, no big deal. i think that if you are going to introduce fresh ideas into the community or try to sell cool products, that you should put your heart into what you do and put all your effort into it.
i hope that makes sense..

Clearcorners.com is like Vertex. Only real ballers can afford to rock the real shit but it looks/quality/performs soooo good.
No unfortunately i don't have any Clearcorners stuff. And only 1/3 real Vertex. Heh. Maybe I can get 1 clearcorners light to keep the ratio even.

wouldn't you think it would be better for you to say nicer things around here? you represent a company (since everyone knows you are assoicated with clearcorners and you have that in your sig), being nice to people really wouldn't hurt your company. anyone on here could be your potential customer, including the ones you bash on. plus, "putting politness aside" when you are representing a company doesn't really make the company look professional. just a suggestion....

thanks for the constructive criticism.
honestly, i dont really take these things personally. when people post, i dont look at the author of the post and THEN make my comment.. i very much read blindly through the forum and if someone says something that catches my interest or attention, I say what I have to say and THEN.. maybe just THEN do I look to see who the author is.
So what does all this mean? This means I state my opinion about whatever people say based on what they post, NOT who they are. If a newbie posted pics of those tail lights, I'de say "those tail lights are ugly." If Mr West, the owner of this forum posted pics of those tail lights, I'de say "those tail lights are ugly." If Tsuchiya himself came on here and posted a pic of those tail lights, I'de say "those tail lights are ugly." Then of course, after posting what I'de say I'de edit my message and tack on "PS: Tsuchiya.. you're a kickass driver."
You're right though, business owners should be polite. I'll go ahead and modify my profile/signature. Thanks.

I will be honest, I don't mind the comments as I said before. I'm not here to compete against mike or clearcorners. This is only something that I made for "my own use" not to produce for everyone to purchase on my website. My website is only for my auctions and items I ship in for those that need help shipping aprts in from Japan. I hope no one is confused to think that this is a "product" that is for sale...it's not b/c IT'S MINE! haha....anyways, I appreciate the comments.
BTW, bad comments are the ones that makes the forums interesting...and also helps out what to put into the market in terms or products/ideas...
