when installing the 5 speed transmission, and splicing into the auto vehicle's harness, where do you tap the reverse sensor in? is there a wire on teh aut tranny harness, or do you have to splice back at the auto tranny controller?

also, after the transmission is tapped in, did any of you remove the auto tranny computer, or was it necessary for continuity in other wiring?

ok first off you have three plugs in the front by your relay box. thats were your auto tranny harness plugs in . the middle plug has the leads for the reverse light switch. but I don't remember the color of the wires you may have to do a couple of wire ups to get the right leads as there are 6 -8 pins. in your car you will have to use a 5 speed trans engine ecu vs the auto trans engine ecu. if you do not the car will still run but it will throw a code because it will not be able to find the auto trans and that will turn on your check engine light. you can unplug the the auto tcu .

^^^ right, but mine's a 95, not a 90, and in 95 they were prepping for OBDII and have tons of extra wiring B.S.

thanks Drift freaq for the info - i couldn't find your old swap post in the faq or the awkward tech section.

ya I know somehow when mark switched over to the new software it got lost in the switch. I sent mark a message about it but he is a busy man so I do not know if he caught it.

what about the gear sensors? I'm new to the 240 world and plan on doing my 5 sp swap too and I heard about having to splice in the wiring for the gear sensors.

if you are running a s13 the only things that really need to be hooked up are your speed sensor which is pretty much a straight plug in and your reverse light sensor. You do not need to hook up the 4th and 5th gear sensor unless your anal about that kind of stuff. On a S14 you can get away with it to but you will need to run the 5 speed ecu due to OBDII otherwise it will throw code and turn on your check engine light.

so there are no negative effects to not connecting them? I have a 91.

none . I ran my low mileage 91 that way.
