Alright so I have a s14 sr that is getting rebuilt but it will need a new block. I have a spare s13 block sitting around I would that like to use. I know everything works and lines up except for one oil passage that carries oil to the vtc. I have read this thread http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/242057-s13-s14-sr20det-head-swap-how-differences.html on how to plug and redrill the hole so that oil gets to the vtc sprocket. But vtc is being deleted on my head and I will be running s13 cams and cam gears so is it really necessary to change the hole if I am not going to be running vtc?

That motor is going to be a dog without the VTC. Do you understand what the VTC does, how it affects hp/trq? If you don't want VTC, buy a factory high port S13 head and put it on.

You will still need to plug it or you will not have oil pressure to the Chain tensioner. You have the extra oil port confused. That extra port is for the chain tensioner on the S14 SR. The original chain tensioner oil port on the S13 is what feeds the VTC on the S14.

If switching to a non VTC cams at least upgrade to like a stage 1 cams but it's up to you. Other than that don't really see huge issue running stock S13 SR cams. GL!
