Long Story Short...Redid the timing set on the car. Reinstalled everything and had an oil leak near the upper bolt of the distributor on the upper timing cover. Pulled the upper cover off again and cleaned everything back up and redid the RTV and reinstalled. Getting the same leak at the same spot! A fairly signifigant leak!

Anyone have any problems like this before? Next step is for me to try a diff upper cover. I swear this car is cursed and does not want to ever run again!

Help!

Thanks!

Here is a pic to help identify what i am talking about. It is leaking between the timing cover and head. As you can see it is RTV'd. Bolts are torqued to spec

So it seems the alignment pin was holding the cover off. After taking the cover off i mocked it up without RTV just to see whats going on and the pin is holding that side off a lil bit. I drilled the hole out on the cover a bit and now it sits flush. Gonna give this a try and see if that fixes it. Anyone else experience anything like this?

Did you have any machine work done? I have heard that if the cover isn't machined with the head that they will leak. I had some work done to mine at a machine shop and mine leaks in the same place. I haven't tried to fix mine yet so I don't know if it was from the machine work or that they did a poor job sealing the cover

Not recently. I had the head redone a while back but I tried a couple diff covers and same thing. i do have a bunch of extra parts laying around and may have grabbed a spare upper cover laying around. Should know tomorrow if it fixed it. Have it RTV'd and back on now. Giving it the night for the RTV to cure and test run tomorrow.
