s14 sr20det.. I have had the motor sitting in my house. Pulled the plugs and they are pretty black. Not wet though, just looks like it was running rich, gap seems big and the are NGK R irridium 8's (shouldnt they be 7's?)

Thoughts?

Use copper plugs

Ok, what kinda heat range should I go with? this will be a DD, might up the boost to 10-12psi. Stock everything, BB s14 turbo, arc sidemount

Iridium are better. By those are too cold, and they look it. Get some 7s.

Iridiums last longer, when they dont get drenched in fuel. They may be 0.00000001% better as the electrode is smaller, but considering their price, it is just not worth it. get grade 7 coppers, 4 for 15$ or less. The irridium version will cost at least 60$.

BTW you want to setup the gap correctly, 0.8mm or smaller should do the trick. They usually come gapped at 1.1mm .

Thanks for the advice guys, any ideas why the plugs look they way they do? Any sign of oil burning or does this look like a cold plug/rich condition?

Copper will melt before it puts a hole in your block. That's why I'm using them. Just in case...

jamg is right.

In the event of a super lean condition in which the electrode could be melted the iridium could possible break free of the plug and beat the shit out of the pistons and combustion chamber. Copper will burn up without hurting the top end.

OP, you need p/n: BKR7-ES copper NGK plugs.

If your mixture is right and your engine is running efficient the plug will have an ash color to it. Not to white, not to dark either. Just google some pictures to help you read the plug.

BCPR7ES or BKR7ES...gap them down to .030

That may be true, but I have never seen an electrode break and cause issues. I have always seen the ground strap break off. It isn't made of copper or iridium.
