A little project to hide my amps for those nights that I can't sleep in my car with a shotgun... (thumbnails link to larger pics)

It's a couple amps behind smoked acrylic and a 4 piece carpeted plywood cover that squeezes between the back seat and the strut brace. The tint is enough to stealth the amps, and the carpet matches the interior well enough to look stock.

For the anti-rice activists, the red lights are actually pretty subtle (except for when I take really long exposure pics), and are *only* illuminated when the hatch is open.

mad pimpin' yo! I want to copy that, lol my amp is in the back of my seat and I don't think a strut brace would clear it but I gotta change it anyway...

Two amps and no subs? Odd,whats the deal with that playa?

How hard was it??? Thats mega awsome man, very good job. Do you have anything to keep them cool? I would think they'll proble overheat like that? Hmm...great job:)

Shit 2 more questions! Does if affect the "comfort" of your backseat and can it still fold down?

thanks for the feedback...

How big are your amp(s)? There was about 3" of clearance behind my brace, but I did have to rotate it (pilot STB).

Two amps and no subs? Odd,whats the deal with that playa? Had the sub box out while I was finishing that up last night and took some pics before putting it back in. Running two 10s currently. Going to have to build a spare-tire sub box for a single 10 or 12"... I miss the trunk space, and it will go with the stealth theme.

How hard was it??? Thats mega awsome man, very good job. Do you have anything to keep them cool? I would think they'll proble overheat like that? Hmm...great job:) It wasn't hard at all (except on my knees -- should have removed one of the front seats), just time consuming. Total time on the project was somewhere around 20 hours. But that includes replacing all 4 speakers, wiring/mounting the amps, running new wires for the speakers, fabrication of the amp rack cover, and wiring the subs/installing them into the box. I'm going to add two 120mm 12v computer fans to the rack cover in a pull configuration, so air will flow from underneath (the bottom of the cover is open) and expel towards the top.

Oh, and the seat still folds down, the cover is easily removable as well (it's literally sandwhiched between the strut brace and the seat). And what do you mean by comfort of the back seats? No such thing on an s13! :) (but no, there's no difference in feeling).

Added some day pics... You can see why I want to move to a spare-tire enclosure :D

amp rack is nice but your sub box kinda.. sucks.
I started a fiberglass tub for the driver's side to tuck in behind the wheel well but then I traded for a coupe. I could finish it for a ten or a twelve, would you be interested in it? Its just about done and I'd hate to see it go to waste.

Why didn't you use the kneepads you have from your day job? :bigok: Hmm I shouldn't bring any more details...

I do like how you cleaned up the wiring though. Does that mean when you put the spare tire one in, I get the other to put in my coupe? Muahah!

Andrave: Is that for the area directly behind the rear drivers side wheel? Opposite to the interior light for the hatch? If so, thanks for the offer but I don't want to lose that space (spare tires for events just barely fit side-to-side thanks to it). Have any spare-tire enclosures for hatches?

Aaron: pssh, you wish that box would fit in your coupe :P

Oh yeah, and for the record, and anyone searching in the future, I'm running Infinity Kappa 462.5cfp 4x6 plates in all four corners. They fit perfectly fine, but I had to redrill the holes in the plastic baffles for the two fronts, and use longer screws for all four. I see a lot of confusion and not a lot of definitive answers for what kind of 4x6s fit, so I hope this helps someone in the future.
