This means bad news. This really sucks to hear. Means more MEDIA attention...more Takumi wannabes...more cliffhangers...more deaths....more cops. I mean it does sounds like a cool event to go to. But man, it kinda sucks to hear. Just more attention that doesnt not need to be had. But I guess it was bound to happen. And I guess its like not One individual person owns the damn mountains. aaarrghh anyhow..rant rant...sucks to hear. :-/

You know, no matter what it says on the site, I see very little chance for them to get actual permission to run there. Imagine the cost of insurance, etc. for an event like that.

hmmm, irc, back in the day (96?), option video got permission to close off a portion of a socal mountain pass to do a special.

its certainly doable.

true, but Option is a more established organization and probably more funding...

not saying SocalRace Club wouldnt do it, they might with enough funding, but both SocalRace Club and Option is like comparing apples to oranges

Whoa. 5 days notice for such a "big" event? Too bad. Im still in Hawaii visiting my fam. Maybe my trip would have been planned better if I HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS with a normal timeframe for a competition. Tsk tsk. Oh well, hopefully there will be others. And hopefully somewhere other than a parking lot? Besides the ultra JDM touge of course.

I don't know if it's just me but this event sounds like a something put on by people that are only concerned about making money off of drifting. They say that people will get sponsored and stuff but for what, performance parts, neon underglow, apc tail lights, tires? No details. Just saying that you'll be filmed and that you can join their special drift team. Plus, it seems like this is put on by a bunch of people in the show car crowd. Anyone else see the sketchyness in this event?

Anyone else see the sketchyness in this event?

I do. :ughd: +1 for post whoring weeeee. I hope those that registered get enough seat time since I bet everyone and their mama is probably trying to get in.

CleanS14
04-08-2004, 08:58 AM
Yep... definitely not put together by drift enthusiasts concerned with seat time!!! But then again Chris you can't knock them by making a dime or 2 at the event... you know how hard it is to come out on the plus side on these things...

I just feel bad for the drivers... unless of course you're good and make it to the TOUGE!!! hahahahhaahaha

Closing off a section of Touge isn't too hard... I've looked into it... but yes insurance is INSANE!!! Especially since it's not like the Hot Version touge shiz where things are fenced up and stuff in certain areas... well at least that's what they told me...

About the touge, you guys have a good point as to why it would be bad to commercialize that. Ive felt that way alot about drifting and how the announcers at big drift events would always say "240s are cheap, drifting is a cheap sport to get into blah blah" look at hondas, before in teh 90's, it was original to fix up a honda, you could go to a import show and appreciate the cars since they wherent as stupid and ghey as they are now, more on performance based.. then more and more magazines and media coverage got it, and now everybody and there momma has altezza taillights and every lil kid wants to be Brian O'conner.

Is this a small DD style event, or is it going to be more of a competition? I don't like the sounds of "eliminatior competition" ... to crap drivers like me that sounds like "less seat time". :p

The event got off to a pretty rough start. But after the course design was fixed it was a lot of fun. I got a ton of track time in. Definatly worth the money.

I also got in a ton of time. enough to go through two sets of used tires on smooth asphalt. horrible begining. I got to finally meet people because of it though.

yeah, but you know, if 55 people actually did show up for this event, it woulda totally sucked. It was a good event strictly because it was small and everyone got a lot of track time.

They need better organization, more people, and more planning if they want to do an event for anything bigger than 30 people.

HyperTek
04-11-2004, 05:51 PM
yah I had tons of fun and learned alot too. If anyone remembers me by my signature. Event was filmed by somebody (they said ESPN but who knows). Oh yah, no S2000s or any of the FWD cars that where on the list showed up so I think that might have been used as promotion since I know a guy with a S2k and his name was on there and so was his friends name but they didnt know anything about this event. But yah, the event didnt seem too organized at the beginning, but you did get tons of track time. I was like the only person out there with open diff, but I learned alot in how to tame it. Now OEM VLSD isnt looking too bad for me now.. lol

Next event they are planing to be held in the infield at Irwindale, some of thier sponsers couldnt make it to this event so hopefully next time. I guess what they really are doing is trying to spot out who they wanna grab for sponsership, could be why its a private event.

Id be damned tho if they really do this Azusa run as a way of grabbing someone to use to flim a scene in a movie like the next fast and furious.. who knows, they could be up to something, seeing how on their forums they had a forum for "fast and furious music tour" or something like that. haha

the S2000 thing should give you a clue. Take what that guy claims with a grain of salt. He uses a lot of names without permission and openly lies through his teeth. Were you there when two of the people in his own club chewed him out about using their names? Is it SocalRace club or is he trying to run an one man show behind their backs?

I contacted Speed Alliance, one of their socalled sponsors and SA (Chris) told me the guy TRIED to get SA to sponsor them, but failed, but still uses SA's name without their permission. Same goes for Tanabe from what Chris tells me. Pretty friggen shady if you ask me.

i don't doubt that he has good intentions... but i just can't really believe him anymore. That stuff about Azusa, ton of sponsors being there, irwendale infield. I'll believe it when i see it.

off-topic:Did anyone else know that the girl that was flaging had a birth control patch on her shoulder and would occasionally say "go kick ass!" or "you guys are fast!" lol.. Before she left the event at the end, she jumped and hugged that cordinator guy like he was her daddy or something. haha

-dood that sux ass that ur motor phudge'd up. wuz that the mean valve tick i heard. same goes for the M3 owner i heard his car clunking loudly, hopefully it was just a throwout bearing.

BTW- who wuz the guy with the white hatch with blacktop SR rollin SSR up front, that guy had gross suggestions i hadnt even considered for my 240. hope to see all you guyz at D-day "i want ride alongs, until june haha"

if jason somehow convinces the city to allow azuza runs which i highly doubt. how will there be a way to filter out the wannabes from those who want to take it seriously. not to mention setting up braking markers. insurance is the main thing, so many sue happy phudge'rs out there, fees wud kik or arse in order to do that.

I am sorry. It happend so early too. That is one reason I don't let but only a few select people drive my car.

SCRC need to get some help from the dday, or NASA people on how to set up and run an event. If these stay small though I would love to go again. It is sad to see that non-registered cars and drivers were out there. My friend took out prelude. It was fun to watch but I think it shouldn't have happened. I don't like the sound of the Azusa thing at all. I don't want to see people out there practicing for this thing with other cars on the street and such. I also don't want to see people with my skill level out there on a street with curbs and cliffs and hills. I would never try drifting on my road. too much to lose.

Anyway. What is the next event that everyone is going to. I am not signed up for dday but I want to get back out there soon.

P.S. The asian chick's ass was way too flat------ "like board".

I think i should summarize the entire thread:
1. There are possibilities of getting Asuza, but until we have all the bases covered, this will be a long time in coming. Maybe end 2005, we just dont want any bad press for any of us.
2. I had a lack of staff for the 1st event, people flaked on me, i tried my best with what i had
3. A lot of scouting was done at the 1st event and sponsored cars and drivers have already been contacted.
4. SCRC and Pacific Drift have been offered a sponsorship by Speed Alliance for Vertex body kits and Chris and Warren both know about this, so i do not know where that information came from
5. Tanabe Racing Development are a company we have never promoted nor inferred alliances with. Michael McFall knows SCRC and their product line was out of stock at the time of the last event, when we last talked.
6. Ku, your car was fixed straight away and i put that down to stress on the day, but you are cool
7. The S2000s I actually remember posting about that in the SCRC wondering where all the S2000 registrations came from, I phoned a few of them. The information (email address and phone number) was all accurate so I presumed they group registered. I am checking ALL the registrations for their validity now and all registrations get a confirmation email to the email address to stop people from registering other people.
8. SCRC does not make money from any event, even if we did, the money would go into creating more events for the Drifters. It personally costs me in time and money to put on these events
9. I am not from Australia, I am from England and you are entitled to your opinion as badly informed as it is!
10. Pacific Drift #2 is on June 5th on the Inflield, goto www.socalraceclub.com for registration
11. The event was filmed by Thrust Video, I got a promo reel 3m44s and the final segment will be upto 15 minutes on DVD
12. If you have any questions, concerns or anything, email me so that the next event will be much better.

I value your input, we learn from our mistakes

MikeFD3S

Tanabe Racing Development, USA has no corporate alliances with SCRC and any strategic ties were never expressed nor implied.
