hey guys i need help.. a buddy of mine just sold me his 1984 z31. i bought it because he was asking dirt cheap and the car is in great condition.

Now what i really needed to know is what other z/s chassis parts, aftermarket parts fit on the z31 so i can make it drive and look a little better?
-suspension?
-steering?
-exterior?(lips?)
-performance? (easy swaps?best swap?)
-brakes?
anything will help thanks

The z31 aftermarket is pretty darn limited. The main place you're going to find parts is

Welcome to the Acadiana Sports Car Orphanage! | Acadiana Sports Car Orphanage - Official Store (http://store.acadianasportscars.com/)

And for suspension, you're also pretty limited for choices. There's your standard strut/spring combo's, and for coilovers you're prettymuch limited to Stance, and now Powertrix.

Steering, not a lot depending on what you're looking for. Gary Molitor does limited runs of steering rack poly bushings, and there's a group buy for higher angle steering spacers right now on z31performance.com. In terms of steering wheels, the s13 hub's fit for quick release or aftermarket wheels.

For lips there's the SS or TBO replica lips, or if you're balling out of control, which I assume you're not being that you bought a z31 (;)), there's Proudear out of japan.
MSA has body kits as well, most of them are ugly.

As for swaps, depending on what you're doing with the car, if the car is turbocharged now you probably don't have to swap engines. If it's non turbo, the easiest thing to do is swap the turbo bits onto the n/a engine. If you're set on a swap, the sky is the limit, but the car came with an rb20 in japan (200zr), so that's probably the easiest swap. Aside from that, vg30dett is ok, vh/vk is possible, or whatever else depending on level of expertise and money.

brakes, you can bolt z32 brakes onto the front if you have 87-89 turbo hubs, there's a member who figured out how to do it with the older hubs, but you'll probably want to swap to 5 lug anyway. There's lots of options for BBK's, they just take some research and doing to get em to work.

This is pretty good basic reading

TURBO FAQ: MODIFYING A SERIES I 300ZX TURBO FOR SPEED (http://www.z31.com/faq/turbo.faq.shtml)

also check out z31performance.com for a decent group of z31 owners. just avoid that DeleriousZ guy, he's a dick.

dang man big help i really appreciate it!!! thanksxmillions

i figured id be a little limited i started doing some research and found out theyre not so common in the street scene. thanks again for the links ill have to check em out.

well im goin for a more sleek, nice, slammed, daily z.. i do have an 89 s13 hatch and it currently has an rb20 in there, and now that you mention the 200zr.. it might jus be better to slap the rb series in the z ehh??

and i have upgrade 4 lug brakes on the s13.. will they fit directly?
oh nice ill be sure to stay away from that deleriousz dick! haha thanks dude:)
if there is anything else let me know man.

The main thing you run into with the RB swap is that you'll need the proper crossmember, mainly due to the VG30 being a rear sump v6. 200zr crossmembers are exceedingly hard to find. There are 'swap kits' out there that fix this issue though.

In all honesty, the vg30et is more than capable of being a good daily driver engine, people can squeeze 350-400rwhp out of them pretty reliably. The engine's main downfall is its oiling capabilities, which can be mostly solved by a shimmed auto-turbo oil pump and a hammerhead oilpan. The only time you really have to worry about it is if you're doing high g cornering.

I'm not sure how the s13 upgraded stuff will fit, most people just jump right to 5 lug.

You'll find that the suspension setup in the z31's is pretty caveman compared to the s13's multi-link. There's excessive toe and camber gain when lowering the car in the rear.

i talked to a friend whos got 2 all stock fresh rebuilt vg's from his newer Z32. and based from what you now say for the daily. im goin with the vg :)

cool i'll plan for that auto-turbo pump!
what to do to fix and/or fit a perfect camber for the rear than? and product in particular shall you say? do they have kits to adjust it?

If you want to go low and properly align the rear, you'll need to do an s13/s14/z32 rear subframe/suspension swap. It's not really difficult but it is quite involved.

The vg's in z32's are prettymuch completely different engines. They're DOHC vs the z31's SOHC and are twin turbo vs single turbo. The swap is definitely involved as well. The engine code for z31's is VG30E or VG30ET vs the z32's VG30DE or VG30DETT.

DZ forgots all the stuff I make for the suspension:

Front 13" 2-piece BBK
Extended 60mm wheel studs
Negative camber roll center adjusters
S13 coilover adapters
Front bumper brackets (preparing last batch)

You'll also find someone making quicker ratio steering knuckles

Oddly he didn't mention a vg33 swap from a pathfinder/quest, since it's pretty much bolt-on using z31 accessories

Its a hub addapter for a aftermarket steering wheel heard they aren't common for these cars. If anyone knows someone hit me up and send me a link

I know for sure you can use most S13 hubs, some trimming of the plastic surround might be necessary with some

Not all s13 hubs require trimming. Not sure where you get this from. None of the s13 NRG hubs have needed any trimming.

NRG s13 hubs fit onto z31. I run the s13 NRG slim hub and NRG 2.5 QR. Depending on what steering wheel you plan on using I would try to make the assembly and slim as possible rather you are going to put the steering wheel at your chest.

Momo also make a z31 specific hub adapter.
