Recently I installed a new set of toda cams in my S14 sr. I was very carefull to follow the fsm to the letter with the install. I started it up and it ran fine except for a very quiet squeel/screech. After about 3-4 minutes of idling the noise started to get a little more noticeable and kind of sounded like metal screeching together. Thinking that I was having an oiling issue I pulled the valve cover and cranked the engine and both cams were getting oil. Next I pulled the bearing caps for the cams to check for wear and to see if they were getting oil. It appears as though they are all getting oil. The only thing I noticed is that on some of the cam bearings the polishing or wear on the cam is more concentrated on one side of the bearing (To the front or the rear of the engine). So far what I am thinking is that the old cams had seated in at some slightly odd angles and with the new cams they are having to wear in to the new angles. Based on the bearing design with the oil chanel in the middle it makes sense to me that if one side were tight and one side was loose all of the oil would go out of the loose side and the tight side would be dry causing the extra wear. My conclusion is that even though it makes me cringe thinking about I just need to let it wear in and the everything should come out fine, I hope to god. If anyone has any suggestions on what I should do or other things to check please let me know.
