View Full Version : Longer Hood Latch Cable to Accommodate Harness Tuck?

I just re-raised my body harness on the drivers side to avoid rubbing into it. Since the first time I raised it I was faced with the cable for the hood latch being very tight when raising it. I've had it as high as it would go and still rubbed on it when I wasn't even that low. Here you can see the best way that I found to route it. Even then it was pretty hard to make it reach.

So my question is, does anyone know of another Nissan cable that will work that's maybe 5"-10" longer so that we can route it along side the harness? I know this is a common issue yet there's very few threads on the matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I dont think it needs to be tied down towards the front. Where mine used to rub was just by the frame rail, I just passed it to the other side. My car was pretty low, didnt rub after i moved it.
I also tried unhooking it from the latch up front to pass it through the engine bay but got frustrated and gave up.

Unhook the cable and make it so you can open the hood directly from the latch (I used a zip tie where the cable attached before. Otherwise you'll just eat through the cable. I ate through it at the track, what a headache.

I've been measuring and comparing them at the junkyard and it seems like MK3 surpas have the same ends and are about a foot or more longer then s13/s14 ones. I haven't had time to pull one yet and bring it home to try though.

Seriously! i thought this was common knowledge. Just unhook it from the latch, route it through the engine bay, and reconnect to latch. Done and done.

For those of us that tucked, shaved, and cleaned up the engine bay running the cable through there isn't an option. Even when it is tucked under the side. It's the principle.

I'd bet that the R33 would have a hood latch cable longer than the S14, and be compatible. Just need some confirmation. They seem to go for around $30 on eBay. Maybe worth an attempt and report results back here?

Mine was routed through where the door wiring goes inside the cabin.
Then I decided to go with hood pins, because I found some I actually like.
