I am the 240sx owners dad and his "wrench" as it were....so Im posting this looking for help.
We bought a pretty clean 91 240sx, mostly stock and ***now the problem***
the brake and gas pedals are about 2-3" higher than they should be.
They feel like some kind of stop isnt working and come up higher than they should. They have NO RESISTANCE when being pushed down....and work correctly when they get down to where they are supposed to be. IE..once I get them down to "normal" position
they function as they should.
What is the fix for this? Is it an adjustment? Or are the pedals missing a stop of some kind?
I have to teach him how to drive a stick...fun, fun...but need to get this fixed so he can learn without dealing with this...
Thanks and killer forum.

Maybe it doesn't have the right pedals installed.

You should make sure the throttle cable isn't being overtaxed by excessive throttle movement and/or the correct pedal/cable etc are installed. I am pretty sure I have an extra gas & brake pedal laying around if you find out you have the wrong ones installed. Drop me a PM if you need.
Hope your son is out there learning with you as you do his wrenching for him=) Whenever I do stuff for my 19yr old, I make damned sure he is right there with me; if not doing the work himself under my guidance.
Hope this helps. When it comes to figuring out what's what, Google, courtesynissanparts.com etc are your friends ;)

Im pretty sure they are OEM and work fine...I drove the car and once you get past all of the "excessive play", they work as they should. Thus the thinking that they just need an adjustment or part. ????????????????????????????????
I just need to get them closer to the floor, so he can learn to shift correctly without the ballet moves.......
Thanks for the reply...if by chance they are incorrect, I'll pm you and thanks for the reply.

Not sure if you looked at the drawings in the links I posted- there is a piece of plastic and associated bracket under the gas pedal that functions as a "stop." It looks like this:

If that stop isn't under the pedal, then that could be a problem... Also, IIRC, you can adjust the throttle cable tension tighter at the pulley on the throttle body. Just be careful not to adjust it too tight or the throttle may stay slightly open.
There should not be slop in the brake pedal, unless the system needs to be bled. The brake pedal should be fairly stiff- If not, check the MC, calipers, booster etc... Something isn't right.
