i have a 91 with a s14 sr20 swap done, 140 miles into my 480 mile trip home a violent im talking 7.0 on the richter scale vibration started. We seen some smoke out the rear so figured it smoked a bearing. I replaced both rear hub assemblies with no luck as soon as u start shifting through the gears u cant feel the vibration but only alittle in the shifter by the time u hit 3rd gear and bout 40 miles the vibration starts and its bad even going even up into 4th gear it continues. when i got home the smoke was comin again but it was comin from the brake the piston was locked into position puttin pressure on the pad and rotor but i dunno if that would be causing the sever vibration.
My ideas......
1. Drive shaft but the drive shaft only has 200 miles on it and its 1 piece so theres no way it could be causein it
2. rear end??
3. heard it could be tranny but no ideas on that 1...
im hearing 4000 diffrent ideas anyone have any logical ideas or thoughts please please help me out......

you were doing 40 mph with a locked brake on one rear wheel? sounds like that would be very bad and uncomfortably to drive on. i think you answered your own question.

Well i didnt realize that the piston was locked into place i fixed that this morning and the vibration continues. Whats the possibilty i have a custom lightend driveshaft and a stock rear end with 158,- miles on it think maybe a main bearing in the rear end?

if you're driveshaft is brand new i can't believe it would be warped already. this seems simple but have you checked the pressure in your tires? my friend had 32 in one and 19 (!!!) in the other and it made his car very um... quirky. also check your alignment! when's the last time you did that? u say stock rearend u mean stock suspension? 158k is alot... check for blown shocks although i dont think that should be causing massive virbration. thats all i can think of over the net. im out of ideas... good luck 2 ya.
i'm thinkin driveshaft. some people say one piece shafts can warp easily but that wouldnt explain the smoke unless you fixed that already

smoke was from the locked brake... probably his pad getting torn up i guess.

yea the smoke was from the brake caliper the figgin piston was seized in place. I checked out the drivshaft and called dale engineering (the company that made it) im waitin to get ahold of them. The differental is stock and the struts and springs in the rear are also stock but they seem ok. when i went under the car to inspect the driveshaft there was a small amount of gear oil on the tranny tip where the drive shaft is connected. im not sure if its leaking or if it was just excess running off. now i heard running a custom driveshaft to the stock rear can cause the stock parts to go quicker.... but then again im not much end of a driveshaft or rear end guy.......

thinking it over i'm guessing it went like this. you're brake seized making ur car all finicky to drive and smoke came out. you kept driving on it which warped the lightweight driveshaft and torqued it a little, possibly messing up the link between the tranny and the shaft (explaining why you are leaking tranny oil).
now that the brake is fixed, you still have a vibration because your driveshaft is now warped; the misc parts that are around it may be fukked or warped as well (diff (open? LSD?), tranny linkage, etc.).

99% sure it's the driveshaft... Why didn't you just stick with the 2 piece shaft? It works just fine..

I had a similar problem with my car. Turned out to be the center bearing mount for the driveshaft. My dumbass forgot to put the top half on and it vibrated like hell. Whatever your problem is, it sounds like it's in the driveshaft.

There are some fine minds on this board for sure..
1 piece driveshaft: $449 from Heavy Throttle
New Rear brakes: $160 from Heavy Throttle
Loss of Tranny Oil: Few bucks from anywhere
Knowledge of not to buy useless crap like a 1pc. driveshaft: Priceless

well i finally figured it out the drive shaft boltsbolts came all the way loose all hand tight n thats what caused it. n just 4 ur information my drive shaft aint shit talkbout fine minds ya asshole
holy shit they hand tightened your drive shaft bolts? i tried to take driveshaft bolts out once off of a mustang..holy jeez it took 2 people hanging off a breaker bar to move them.

lol wish it was the case, i woulda never imagined that'd be it. i didnt get a chance to really tourque them on but yea they were so loose i could take them all off with 2 fingers.
