I'm using Valvoline semi-synthetic oil and i just switched from FRAM to Purolator for the filter.... drove my car a good 4.5K miles since lately hockey and school have been taking up ALL my time, but tomorrow i'll be able to tell you how good a Purolator filter is..... maybe I'll take pics of my dirty ass oil. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

i dont use synthetic oil because i can't guarantee that the old owner used it. &nbsp;switching from regular to synthetic can cause leaks due to the different viscosities.

funny tons of people use mobil 1 synthetic and fram, so do I =P

but that's because i don' t have the money to buy redline oil &gt;=( it's the only oil that gives horsepower gain.

they tested it on a bmw m3 and it got 5 more horses at the wheel, i say amazing...

those dyno runs are marketing ploys. all oil companies do that.

but you are right, redline is the shit. too bad its hella expensive, and only stocked at select authorized resellers. if u cant get your hands on that, just go with the mobil 1, or any oil. as long as u change your oil religiously at 3000 miles, it doesnt matter if u run canola oil.

seriously tho, there's a mechanic at my work complex that has an S13 with a KA motor, and his homemade turbo kit running @ 18psi. he's had this motor in his car for 5 yrs, with absolutely no problems. and he attributes it to the fact that he changes his oil every 1000 miles. nothing fancy, he just makes sure he changes it frequently.

i changed my oil last week and i thought about posting this exact same thread, but didn't have time. I used to use Castol GTX 5w-30 in my Sentra SE-R cause i heard that Castrol was really great with 4 cylinders and it always did great in my SE-R. Ran it one time 10,000 mi without oil change, never knocked once or had ne trouble and the oil wasn't even burnt black when i drained it!! But last week i went with Valvoline Max Life 10w-30 for cars over 75,000 mi. This was the 1st time i changed the oil in my 240 and i think it has been like 4,500 mi since it was changed not sure. But the engine did run smoother and quieter after i changed it so i guess i just wait and c how it does. I always use a Fram filter.

Is there any advantage from having the oil changed at some place like Jiffy Lube?

I take it to the dealer, (Valvoline oil and Nissan oil filter), heard some nasty shit about frams, so I'd stay away from those. &nbsp;

Ever since I've changed the oil in my car it's always been Mobil 1 synthetic (weight dependant on time of year). &nbsp;I used to use Mobil 1 and Fram and Puralator...but for the price, the OEM Nissan filter is plenty fine. &nbsp;There's no huge advantage of using an aftermarket filter. &nbsp;Plus the Nissan filters are only like 4 bucks and some change at the dealer.

is anyone familiar w/ the 10 buck fram oil filter w/ teflon? &nbsp;i used it once on my 92 tercel, (and had too much fun into another car), i felt like the car was running smoother (but it could be all in the head), because teflon lets oil passes through filters more easily w/ less restriction, thus less work on the oil pump. &nbsp;is that non-sense or that's good stuff?
