As stated in title I went from a sohc to dohc. Well actually the previous owner did the original sohc to dohc swap but I just put in a newer dohc. It still does have the sohc gauge cluster, so I am using the white sohc dash plug in for the harness. So hear me out my mph, tach, gas and engine temp all work perfectly fine that is not why I'm asking all this. I am asking how to get the dummy lights to work because in order for me to pass smog they need to flash before the car is turned over. I'm wondering if the 4 or 5 wires left over for the dash connector has anything to do with that. They are like 3 or 4 green ones and 1 red one I believe. So if anyone has any insight let me know or anyone has any threads to point me to point me to those as well.
I have checked out this video multiple times and nothing other than mph, tach, gas and engine temp.
So please help don't want to not pass smog just because of this little thing.

Well according to this:
http://zilvia.net/f/archive-faqs/33502-how-swap-sohc-dohc.html
Wiring:
F'ing SIMPLE.
1. Locate the body harness (under dash harness that attached to the ECU) that attached to your old harness. Cut the old connector off (the one that attached to your SOHC harness) and attach your DOHC body harness connector. Just match the colors! There will be some wires left over. These are for the SOHC's diagnostic plug, and are unnecessary. Please note: Your car will NOT be able to hook up to a CONSULT tool. To accomplish this, you must get a body harness with all the correct DOHC wiring. This is why we cut the body harness connector off, and not the engine harness connector.
2. I recommend using a soldering iron, shrink tubing and electrical tape as opposed to butt connectors. It makes for a much cleaner job, and a cleaner electrical signal.
3. You need to swap out your tach if you want one that works. No wiring is involved, but it must be done. Simply pull your combination meter (gauge cluster) and remove the three screws behind the tach. Lift and separate. Installation is reverse of removal.
4. You should also extend the wires that go to the PS line sensor and connect that to your subharness. It's not necessary, but it's a good
idea.
Seems like you're SOL if you want your CEL light to be functional unless you use a DOHC body harness.
Still doing some reading.... I can't see why you shouldn't be able to find a way to have your CEL be functional.

Ok here is maybe a little better explanation: I have the a dohc engine with a dohc engine harness. It is an 89 like everyone knows here came with a sohc. So here is my problem I want to pass smog here in California but in order too I need my dummy lights to come on cel, etc, etc. I still have the 115 mph gauge cluster in there so that is for a sohc and most of you know that the dash plug in for a sohc is white and a dohc is brown. Well I kept the white sohc plug in and got my mph, tach, temp gauge and gas gauge to work, but no cel. So thats my problem, if I did not explaine enough then I dont know how else to explain it LOL

The statement I made was incorrect. You will be SOL if you want to use the CONSULT plug not the CEL.
After watching the video you posted....there is NO mention of a CEL wire. Which leads me to believe that one of the left over wires is the one you need.
According to the guy in the video the black, grey and white wires are all for ABS. That eliminates that.
Now it just leaves us with the remaining wires:
green
green/yellow
green/white
green/black
red
If you look at the ECU pinout for a DOHC 240sx you see that pin 24 (RED) is for the CEL. Start at the ECCS control unit and follow it all the way:
http://www3.telus.net/kreen/wiring/wh150dpi.png
If you look at the ECU pinout for a SOHC 240sx you see that pin 24 (RED) is also for the CEL. Follow it on pg. 4 of this file (start at the ECCS control unit and follow it all the way):
http://www.240edge.com/manuals/89-90_240sx/wiring_2.pdf
This leads me to believe that the RED wire needs to be installed on your plug in order for your CEL to be functional.
Good luck man,
-Jose
