You have to change the tach, not 100% sure that the speedo will work, but it should. It should just be the tach that than needs changing on the SOHC.

The speedo will work fine. The tach will not.

if you take the cluster apart (easy) you can remove the sohc tach from the cluster and replace it with a dohc tach out of a 91-94 car, or use a JDM tach. No need to get an aftermarket one.

I think you have to use the KA speed sensor too. not sure.

I've been trying to get my digital dash to work for a few days now but have had no luck. My car is an 89 with SR20det. I purchased the cluster which came with the harness. When I plug the new cluster in, all the warning lights and backlights seem to work, but no speedo or tach. I did notice that on the stock harness someone cut one of the wires and took it directly to the cam angle sensor in the engine. Could this have something to do with why the thing is not working correctly?
Any help on this would be appreciated!!

They prolly ran the wires to the CAS to get the tach to work (wont work on 89-90)
If you replace the subharness and the speedo still doesnt work, its blown (common problem)
I know its stupid, but did you check the fuses?
Good luck

Which fuses would be suspect? When I swap my old cluster back in, it still works, so I don't think any fuses would be in question.

Your old cluster doesn't have a Digital Speedometer. :D (or does it)
When my stereo got jacked awhile ago, the loose wires shorted some fuses and my HUD stopped working.
'Tis why I said check the fuses... naturally fuses would not affect a analogue cluster too much I would assume.

I guess after much searching on every 240 forum out there, I still cannot find out why this won't work on my car. No fuses are blown. My car is an 89 FB w/SR20det and came with the analog cluster. My stock speedo works fine, the one on the digital one does not. When I bought the car there was an aftermarket tach in the stock tach position that was never hooked up because the guy didnt know what he was doing. The tach on the the digital cluster doesn't work either. So I've come to only two conclusions: 1.The person sold me a bad digital cluster or 2.There is some wiring issues between using the analog one and the digital one. The digital cluster that I got is a JDM one and I don't know whether that makes any difference. I'm hoping to chat with someone on this board or another board who may be able to shed some light on this subject for me. Anyone who thinks they can help me can please contact me on AIM at FUSIONT78. I would greatly appreciate any help on this subject!!

the HUD cluster does not use the same harness as the analog, or so I've read.
The speedos are known to go bad, so I'd say there is a good chance yours did.
I have a HUD unit for sale and HUD cluster but the speedo is bad in my cluster so it won't do you much good.

I have the harness that is needed to have the unit plug and play with the stock interior harness yet the cluster still does not work.
Does anyone know how to test the cluster to see if is indeed broken or does anyone know what needs to be re-wired when you have an SR20det swap in the car for tach and speedo to work correctly?

you need the ka speed sensor and the ka24DE tach. Thats it.

You sure I need the KA speed sensor? From all that I have read, the JDM cluster that I have was supposed to be plug and play with my current engine setup. Are you saying that I need to replace my SR speed sensor with a KA one? I plan on getting a working DOHC analog gauge cluster to see if that will work and if the speed sensor is avail at the time and I really need it for the digital cluster to work, then I may pick that up as well.

Ugh.
The Speed Sesnor is irrelevant to the operation of the Speedometer. The engine is irrelevant as well.
Basically, if you have the subharness, your fuses are good, no wires are damaged and the speedometer is getting a signal but doesn't display anything, you have a bad Digital Cluster.
Sorry. (I have a SR w/ Digital Cluster + HUD on a '89 so I know I'm right)
If you are interested I have a Digital Cluster + HUD + Subharness to sell you, and I know it works... :D

Talk to me bro! I'm definitely interested in getting it from you. What kinda price are we talking? Let me know where you're located as well as I can possibly have someone come and pick it up from you.
Thanks!!
