Its funny how people always ask these (imho) stupid questions.......why don't you go find out first hand......stop assuming who will win, too many factors involved......... Just do it....like Nike.....

i dunno, i can c how it might help to know if u shouldn't waste the time of embarassing urself. but in street racing it's always down to the drivers b/c they could be someone that don't know shit about cars or driving n have a nice car.

The GTS would win hands down...not even a question. Just look at the specs and the times. This question shouldn't even come up. I don't know the exact specs of the GT, so I can't comment on that one. I suspect its a bit quicker though. As for the Couger, that would be a close one, but I think the Mercury would edge out the 240. They have power on tap, but they don't use it very effectively. I know I took one by about a car length with the Si, but the Si would also beat the 240. Look at the numbers and figure it out.

a manual 240sx will beat a mercury cougar considering i could tear them up with my stock SOHC. now watch somebody will say, a cougar will beat a 240sx because they have 164hp when they've never even raced one

The v6 cougar has 15 more hp but also weights 3000-3200lb versus our 2700-2800lb. We could win, they coudl win. I figure it would be pretty equal. Add exhuast and intake to our 240 and put it up to about 170hp as well, and we'd have a definate winner. Of course this is just me speculating like almost everyone else on the board. A 4 cylinder cougar is only 125hp

My brother has the new Celica GTS 6speed. We raced on the express way almost every weekend morning going to work. He has an exhaust and cold air intake. I have headers, intake and exhaust. We're always head to head until I reach my speed limit of 120mph. That's when the Celica takes off and leave me behind. It has 160+mph speed limit. As, for the GT...is no match for our 240sx. My bros gf has a Celica GT with cold air intake and exhaust. BTW, I have a 97 240sx. I hope this clear things up a bit.
yah enough talk just post up something when u beat someone.... cuz u never know till u race them and it comes down to the driver. so enough speculation plz!

I wish it did, but unfortunately ever driver has his weaknesses and strenghts........every race will be different.

i've had a celica gt, and it'll be close, but it takes the 240sx. good drivers get 1/4 mile times of 15.6 or 15.7. the gt-s, with a REAL driver, should have taken u easily. the prob with the gt-s is that the redline is at 7800, and vvtl-i (like vtec) doesnt kick in till 6000. with the tall gearing of the 6-spd, shifts at redline drop u to around 5500. to get good acceleration out of the gt-s, u need to shift at the rev limiter, 8200 rpm. thats why some mags have it at 15.2 or .3, and others at 14.6. btw, the top speed on the gt-s is just under 140, not 160. theres no way u'd be able to take the gt-s tho, even with those mods. a stock gt-s has 160 fwhp, and dyno charts show that an intake and exhaust pushes that up to 170-175.

Yup..everything really comes down to the driver. I f my brother was pro, he would have taken me out from the start. Another thing... crazycuban said that the speed limit of celica is under 140. This is completely false. He might be referring to a GT but the GTS goes beyond that.
I've driven both GT and GTS. They are real nice cars.

nah, i was talkin bout the gt-s...the speedo goes up to 160, but the top speed (i'm pretty positive) is lower...where'd u hear the top speed is 160? please tell me u dont know anyone who's taken it up that far...

Yeah i was just reffering to the speedo. That's weird though...why would they put 160 on the speedo when the car would not even reach it?

The fastest we've gotten my bros GTs is about 137mph.

The RSX type-S has 160 on it too. It'll do about 145 (according to the speedo) If you shot that with a radar gun it'd be about 135 I think

of course they may have put it there b/c in a perfect world where you could pull to redline in sixth it might do 160. But in reality, when you hit sixth, it starts slowing down b/c of wind drag.
Just a thought.
