Didnt look damaged. From the video just looked like he went up the hill. I didnt see a curb beforehand so he might have lucked out.

KoolAidMan687
12-14-2012, 04:49 PM
i know i should of kept filming but i didnt wanna be a dick about it and make him feel even worse im pretty sure he did counter steer but just had all four wheels locked, the damage wasnt to bad but pretty sure the core support was bent which means it should be technically totaled? all the suspension was bent too

BoostSlideWayz
12-14-2012, 11:27 PM
Yeah those cars suspension arent ment for that much travel .. Probably bottomed out hard feeling in the car.. and he should be thank full he maneuvered away from the freeway support... That would have been tragic to see that happen.

Whild I'd agree the NSX should have maybe slowed down, it would be hard pressed to at least not acknowledge that sudden hydroplaning can wreck even the best race car drivers.

BINGO

Looks like he caught a good amount of puddle when he swerve to the left shoulder.

perhaps so. all of my experiences with heavy hydroplaning were with bug puddles and even then the car would slow down significantly and not ever suddenly swerve that quickly.

what do i know though. waste of an NSX

this happened to me and i was just cruising at 70 mph on the 57 southbound. this is what happened: cruising 57 70mph next to the carpool lane, hydroplaned then the car hit the divider with the rear right rim and i ended up facing against the traffic. i swear it was sudden hydroplanning. i didnt hit the brake pedal just steered a bit to the left (car was hydroplaning to the right) then it happened. fortunately i didnt hit anybody else, Im alive and no body damage. just a scrapped rim and a RLCA bent. all fixed. learned my lesson never drive more than 55 mph when the freeway is wet.

As before, anything is possible at any time. I'm not doubting your personal experience, but are you saying since you bombadiered a puddle that all rain/puddles/cars/tires/conditions are the same, right? Heck I've done track days in the pouring rain, and come into some corners where the runoff has changed a smidge, and turned a normally safe corner into an ice rink.

I've even been on some roads (namely the concrete ones up here in the Norhteast) where I've had a trailer hydroplane on me, and a truck do nothing.

And why poor NSX? At least he's out driving the thing instead of sitting home polishing it. Good to see a street car once in a while.

I heard your car too. You let off at 0:12 and somebody's engine revs up really high at 0:13, just as the NSX loses control.

Every one attributing it to hydroplaneing might be wrong. If you listen very closely you hear the Nsx hit the throttle pretty hard then he looses it. I think it just unexpectedly broke traction and the dude froze up and slammed the brakes. Huge mistake.

he absolutely did not hydro plane, he just lost rear traction by trying to gun it and maybe pull away from that "peasant" s14 behind him.

Can't disagree.

If that was in the dry, it woudn't be the same. Plus an NSX doesn't make the torque needed to spin the tires. It's a water related/hydroplane accident. Again, I've been ON TRACK (not on your freeways) with rain worse than this...I know all too well how rain can effect a car without any previous input.

Agreed

12-29-2012, 06:18 PM
I agree. If it wasn't wet, his tires wouldn't have spun when he punched the throttle.

I knew a guy who had an aunt who watched a video about driving in the rain, so I am also an expert on NSX torque curves. :p

(Does a turbo SR20 "make the torque needed to spin the tires"?)

This may be a stretch.

I'd guess that the NSX driver saw the up coming tunnel and wanted to go through it at a lower gear to try and impress the S14 driver. Looks like he tried to rev match and either too much or too little. That was just enough to make the rear come loose.

When you hear the nsx rev up, it sounds like free revving to me.

whoever said that must be thinking of an s2000 or thought since the nsx is made from the same company it must have the same characteristics.

probably doesn't even know the nsx's engine is6 cylinders and 3.0/3.2L.

Not to add that in wet conditions.. yea because water adds traction

I cant talk shit on this guy...

Its easy to go spinning out like crazy in the rain, with any slight traction brake.

i lost traction once just making a left at a intersection in the rain :(, made it out ok.
