There is a little bit of everything. We have a drift scene, highway racing, Midwest Street Cars, Cars & Coffee, car shows, etc...
Also, being a 2 hour drive from Texas opens the door to large events like XDC, Hot Import Nights, Reactor, etc...
The car culture is strong down south. Keep in mind Oklahoma has ZERO emission laws and hardly any enforcement of modifications. We get away with a lot of non DOT approved items. I know guys who drive their registered race cars on the street all the time.
Register on the local Nissan board [Nismokc.com] and get to know people. I will warn you new guys get heckled a little for asking silly questions. I hope your move goes well and welcome :).

Almost forgot. Texas Mile and the national Supra meets (TX2K--) in houston are a blast as well.

SWEET... yea my mom commutes from Irving to OKC every other week. so i was thinking about how easy it was to get back and forth. and definitely texas has a super big scene for drifting etc. so its exciting. its comparable to Portland and Seattle for me. the distance apart from the two is pretty much the same. now i am actually looking forward to moving.

There's a pretty decent drift scene, and we're only a few hours away from Dallas where there's an excellent drift scene. Got a few grip/drag tracks, a pretty good car scene for a city this size.
+1 on the emissions thing, you can build pretty much anything you want and get away with it.
I've lived here all my life and I actually want to move to Portland haha. Been toying with the idea for the last few months.

it's a scary thought moving. what you've lived and known for your entire life, you move somewhere else where you know of nothing.

Hate to be the one to say it, but we also have your old beloved "Supersonics"... Jk, but on a serious note, non car related things out here are pretty great... We have some of the rising best ranked concert venues in the nation, Chesapeake Arena and (Tulsa hour drive east) BoK Center. Both Tulsa and OKC have division II hockey teams, as well as AA baseball teams that are good. Tulsa has a professional indoor soccer team that is playing its first season in November... Both Oklahoma State U and Oklahoma U are within 20mins from the city if you enjoy college sports... Oklahoma has some great music festivals, Stillwater home of OSU has Calf Fry (red dirt country) and College Days/Peel (mixture of genres).
If you enjoy circuit style racing, about 40mins east of the city is Hallet Raceway
Beware if you have a stiff suspension setup, we here in Oklahoma are prone to having some rough roadways and construction is constant everywhere...
Best of luck on the move

haha thank you! yes i've noticed the rocky roads when i came down there to visit my mom over mothers day weekend. went down to what is called "brick-town" and it literally looked like nothing but brick buildings and empty roads, wish i had a tour guide or something to show me the good spots. i only saw one cool import during my stay there, was a R35 GTR silver, driving down i think 40W, i was mostly in the meridian ave area and Mcarthur. stayed at a hotel called Sleep Inn, not to far from the airport. went to the Zoo, and some casino's.
As i was driving through bricktown though, i liked how wide-ish the roads were, anyone ever drift through those streets? LOL
maybe a few more visits and i'll start getting used to the area more.

Hey guys, so bringing back an old post. The move is officially happening in August. Ill be down in Norman actually a bit south of the city. Tried looking at previous posts to see if you guys had like weekly meets and/or events. Itd be cool to make some new friends once I get down there. Unfortunately I wont be bringing my coupe. :( hopefully the scene out there is decent and ill be able to get my hands on another one.

Hey man! Glad to hear you're coming up here! Im located near the Moore area. We actually have a drift event in stoud next Saturday that basically all the 240 guys go too. If you'll be there then its definitely an event to attend. I'll be competing. So ill be more than happy to meet you and kinda show you the scene.

Also there's quite a bit of meets. We have cars and coffee the first Saturday of every month and we have our local nismo meet the second Saturday of every month.

Once you get here there are a few cool guys that cruise 39th street in okc on Saturday nights, it's mainly Hondas but there are a few really good cars out there. If you're ever out there, swing by the vw dealership and I'm usually there! Good luck with the move!

That's a really nice car man. But if you wanna make some decent money, purina dog food plant in Edmond is always hiring! Hours suck, it's hard work, but you can walk away easily with 50k a year. Or ups warehouse is always a good option! Work there for 5 years and have a good chance to become a driver.
If you are here by august 9th we are having the second round of our series. If you get a chance, look at the frictionmotorsports.com website and you'll find out everything about our local drift scene!

My sister lives not far from there in Norman. I live in the city but go to norman on a semi regular basis. I also moved from the NW. Grew up in Bremerton, WA. We do have a decent car scene here but a lot of little kids drawing unwanted attention as well.

Oh and they have one of the largest gunshows I believe in the world there each year. Gl with the move!

I don't know if you ever met up with anyone. I don't get on here much. If you check out Nismokc's website (add a dot com after it) you'll see were having a BBQ in June. also check out the Facebook page, more people use that actually.
I'm Ken, rsxse240 on most sites. I'd love to check out your ride some time.
