Hi,
I have 96 240sx. Recently, my engine check light is on. I've replaced the defective part already. I tried to disconnect the battery for overnight but it doesn't work. Does anyone know how can I reset it by myself? :(

Remove the passenger side kick panel and the phillips screw holding in the ecu. Pull it out and turn the side with the light towards you.
Put you key in the ignition and turn to the accessory on position (just before starting position). Insert a flat screw driver point into the small hole with the adjuster to the left of the led. Turn it clock wise for 2 seconds, then counter clockwise to its original position. The red LED, and the check engine light will blink the error code;slow blinks indicate tens place, fast blinks indicate the one's place.
Turn the car on and perform the same procedure once again and it will clear the code.
With the car still running, I would rev and then drive so that the ECU could adjust when I added a new O2 sensor.
Last step would be to put everything back the way it was. :)

There is also a door jamb method which requires you toopen up the driver's side door and press the door ajar button 7 times fast. Once you do that, you close the door and turn on the car to the accessory postion the guages will light up and the car will start honking. I used this method to clear the airbag light a long time ago.

or theres the always fun unplug the batttery for about ten minutes and stand on the brakes for a couple minutes.
I too Im trying to reset my ecu but I havent had any luck. clearing my code. O-2 sensors need to be redone but I thought if I cleared the code before I started the car my check engine light would go off.
