i bought a Ultragauge monitor for $80 , its only good for OBD 2 . i have a 97 , auto , 112,000 miles , injen cai , greddy cat back , underdrive crank pully .
things i found which may help others.
connected it up and it said i have a bad knock sensor ( i had no service light on ) , off to auto zone , their tester said bad knock, i had replaced it 2 yrs ago. i bought one for about $20 but decided to just cut the wires and put a 560,000 ohm resister in its place. works great. then reset the ecm.
2nd thing , my injen cai is long tube with iat sensor at the filter , the gauge shows lots of things , i just watch-- rpm--eng temp--air intake temp--mpg--battery voltage --ultragauge temp--ign advance .
what i found interesting was the iat was reading about 105-115 degrees when engine temp was 180 degrees , i have a injen heat shield on the filter ( does seem to help much ). what i did was get a flex 3" tube at lowes , put it on and this was able to get the filter very close to the outside air slot , the temp was still about 100 degrees , back to lowes and bought a tin sheet, cut it to size to cover the filter and keep the engine/exhaust heat out , now the cai temp is about 10 degrees above outside air , it more than likley heats up a little getting from the filter to the throttle body . then i put a 1,000 ohm resister in line with the sensor to drop the temp about 10 degrees , when the gauge was reading 80 degrees now it will send 70* to the ecm
just some information .
