i hear a whistling(squeaking, screetch) when i rev the engine in the upper RPM's.
i dont know if it's the belts or the a/c compressor, power steering pump or alternator making the actual noise. the belts seem new
i'm thinking about removing one of the belts and driving around to see if it still makes noise.
any problems in doing this?
what belt can i remove without any problems?

spray it with some brake cleaner and get the belt nice and clean and tacky. sometimes they get some random bullshit on em and dont want to stop making noise. if you really wat to remove them, take em all off and run the engine when its cold only for a very short period of time. no water pump any time other than that and youre gonna have a bad time

i threw some of that belt conditioner on the belts but the noise is still there.
i'm thinking it's gotta be one of pumps or alternator??

Belt conditioner does nothing but make the belts sticky over time. Check to see if your fan clutch is seized up. That's what mine was, the fan was slowing the pulley down below the speed of the belt causing the sequel.

fan is ok, installed a new one a couple of months ago.
not seized.

Did you check the belt deflection? Make sure they're not too loose / tight.

At idle, try turning your wheel to full lock, then try and turn it some more. Power steering noise is very distinct and the pump will whine if it's low on fluid or not working right.

In my case, when I put on new belts they started whining. They were clean, on the track right, and set to proper deflection. I also cleaned the pulleys prior. I ignored it and it went away after a trip to work.
