go aftermarket, it will cost you 800+, but its worth it. Stock LSD's cant handle a good thrashing. Even if you find a good used one, its at least 6 years old.

if you get a 240sx without lsd buy the kaaz solid type lsd designed to work with stock output shafts

i'm pretty sure you have to buy output shafts with kaaz, thats why i didn't get them. they were just slightly out of my price range with the output shafts.
i think vlsd will do someone well if they have no idea what they're getting into with a clutch type. Yo don't feel it and maintenance isn't a bitch. Aftermarket LSD is one of those things that you have to KNOW what you're getting into. You have to understand what you want and be sure that you want it, cause there are drawbacks, things that you feel (possitive and negative) everytime you drive your car.

well if you dont know much why do you want one?
theres so many choices btw, my personal preferance would be nismo lsd, you can adjust it to be 1.5, 2 way etc. you will want to change the fluid every 1500-2000 miles, more often then oil, maybe everyother weekend if you drive HARD. but hey its just cool to have one. :naughtyd:

only the top of the line GT has adjustablity. adjusting is a pain from what i've heard, and most people don't need it, since the feel between 1.5 way and 2 way is hardly noticable unless you really know what to look for/take advantage of it.
Nismo 700-800
Kaaz 780-1000
Tomei 800-1000
Nismo GT adjustable 1500ish
Quaife heilical 1200 (arguably the best for road race)
s15 heilical 500
factory VLSD 300-400
installation 100-200
nismo, kaaz, tomei are clutch, you need to change the oil every 2000-3000 miles. That can run you anywhere from $20-50 a pop. And is a slight pain in the ass. i gotta do mine soon =/
you can also "feel" the clutch type more, can be a pain in the ass to daily drive. more noise, more clunk
vlsd and helical don't need the frequent oilchange and is much smoother. But besides the quaife, clutch types are much better for hard driving, engages faster. Quaife is VERY good but is essentially a 1 way LSD, hard to drift with.
anyway, yeah, do your research, geez. If you don't know anything about LSDs and you think a car not having one is a drawback... i dunno, thats saying something. MOST cars don't come with LSD, and MOST cars that do come with LSD has not so great ones (equivalent of factory VLSD).

Quaife doesn't list it as a 240sx LSD. They list it as a 300zx LSD for the R200 carrier.

in their 04' pricelist here:
http://www.quaifeamerica.com/price/pl2004rb.pdf
it lists:
"Nissan - R200 (280-300Z) fits both 10mm and 12mm ring gear bolts"
This doesn't mean that companies like Nopi don't list it as a 240sx app. And I've emailed back and forth with them a few times, and they know it works fine in the 240sx open diff case with open diff output shafts.

B/C having an open diff sucks....I bet hes driven a car with an LSD or something, the difference is definitely clear when you drive one like that compared to open diff....
I don't know much about them, and I want want...Why? B/c I used to have a chevelle with an open diff, and I've driven Novas and etc. with 'positraction' and the difference was amazing PLUS lsds are better then 'positraction'....:)

yes and no
swapping between 1.5 and 2 way is like changing torque breakaways on something like a KAAZ ----requires disassembly
but adjusting torque breakaway on the GT PRo takes 1/2 hour and there are 2 settings
so depends, if you want the ease of adjsuatbility torque breakaway wise, go with a GT Pro, but if you know EXACTLy what you want torque breakaway wise, go with any other unit.
its nice to adjust per the type of event, grip or drift, streets or track, takes 1/2 hour sooo easy to do. can do it at the track too with basic tools
