Ok, here's the run down. i have an sr5 ae86 and the 4ac is about to go, ive been contemplating an sr swap for it but i dont know much about nissans.

My first question is this, what would be my best option sr20 wise??? It is my understanding that the s13, 14 and 15 engines are different but i dont know the details. I am looking to build a reliable car with 300 to 400whp to use mainly as a daily driver with ocasional track use including amateur time attack and amateur drift. Ive also heard the s15 transmission is no good but i intend to use the transmission from a ka24 truck, ive heard they are smaller and would leave the shifter in the correct spot, any sr or other ka24 tranny would move my shifter back a bit which i woykd rather avoid.

I plan to do this in a 2 step process, ae86 to ka24 and then ka to sr since my current budget won't let me do an sr swap right off the bat and the 4ac has very little life left. The other question is what ka would be best? Since i am unsure of which sr, does it make a difference if its, per say s13 ka to s14 or 15 sr, or s14 ka to s13 or s15 sr???

Thanks so much for any help :)

Man ur gonna create more trouble going from 4ac>ka>SR cost way more in the long run as the SR and KA are not going to share any parts. you need an SR bellhousing to mount a KA tranny and im not even sure with the truck tranny if its any different.
Also there has been enough people who have swapped SR's in to AE86 that you shouldnt need your own thread for a general idea.

Do some research and save threads for specific questions...

You will need a rear sump oil pan that is the hardest part of the swap

Just go straight to SR

I just did one for a customer a few months ago. The swap is fairly easy, you will need to make a custom o2 housing/down pipe to go around the steering column. I made my own brackets and x member spacers. There are plenty of write up's online man

why does he need a rear sump oil pan??

i as well have a sr20 ae86 but RHD, it is fairly simple, what i would do is spend the time and use the whole s13 front subframe and fit it to the car, there are write ups online.
Mine doesnt have it, i had to build new lower engine mouns on the subframe, it has skyline GTR engine mounts, SR rubbermounts are shit, and has 1 1/2 spacers where the subframe mounts into the frame, so the stock pan will clear.
need a custom driveshaft
and no matter which motor you choos KA or SR you ARE gonna have to cut the shifter hole, i have a custom shifter arm which brings the shifter back to the stock location
Wiring is simple only a few wires to make it run
throttle cable i had to use an S14 one, but i think the stock one might work, The LHD cables are longer the the RHD
