I know the awnser seems pbm, but both are made in Japan. I keep hearing about pbm lugnuts screwing up ( mostly users fault). But will mutegis and mutegi locks hold up finesse well? The lugs will be daily with the occasional tire rotation.

No offense brotha but this is a lame ass reason to start a thread lol.

You mean to say 'Muteki' by the way. Since others are undoubtedly going to flame you here's my 0.02:

All lugs are going to the same old shit. The only thing(s) you should be concerned about are locking/not locking and composite. You don't need some $300+ NeoChrome Project Kics for a simple daily (unless you're a baller) if you plan on taking the tires on and off.

PBMs go for $100, right?
Muteki's go for $60. I got some in flat black, open-ended (not by choice) and they were just as good as my Work lugs that cost twice as much.

DO NOT OVER-TORQUE the lugs and they will not bend/strip. Get a torque wrench since it's a smart investment!

Hope this helps! :wan:

My recommendation is to buy the Muteki lug nuts. I have had a set of the SR48's for over a year and have not had any issues with them stripping, nor has the finish started to chip like others have complained about it the past. Most of the issues I've read about are from those using an impact gun to install the lug nuts using the German, "gud-n-tight" standard. As long as you're installing them properly with a torque wrench set between 75-85 ft-lb, you should have ZERO issues.

Also, I don't recommend buying lug nuts from any manufacture in red for the record because they all tend to turn pink. I have even seen pink Ray's... and not by choice.

I have Muteki 'Super Tuner' Open Lug nuts or something like that. They have a 6 or 7 spline key, were reasonably inexpensive and I haven't had any problems with them yet. Paid ~60 for them and I've taken my wheels on and off a good dozen or more times in the last month.

Recommendation: Use the supplied key to put all of the lug nuts on a wheel by hand first. Get them as tight as reasonably possible them use a long ratchet/tire iron to do the final Torquing down. You don't need to take an impact to lug nuts to get them tight enough and starting them by hand ensures that you're properly engaging the threads.

Also, if you end up getting open ended lug nuts, take a piece of cardboard and push it over the wheel studs when the wheel is off. Let ~1/4" of the stud stick out past the cardboard and spray paint this black. Now you won't have an ugly rusted stud showing against your new lug nuts.

I bought Mutekis for my xB back in 04 when I installed my wheels, and well 150K miles/8 years later the lugnuts outlasted the damn 5Zigens, and I've used an impact but I used it very carefully!

i also have the open end black muteki lugs. i take them off a couple times a week with an electric impact (tightening them by hand first) for the last couple years and have never had a problem. they black finish is just as nice as the day i got them.

I have the purple SR48 Muteki Open ended, and I installed mine by hand and tightening with the correct key and torque wrench but my finish was stripped and chipping to shit.

Luckily I got them warrantied and have a new package of them now but my cars parked for winter so haven't installed but weird how urs guys are lasting and mine chipped/stripped really bad.

I use superglue to keep my wheels on

How much did you pay for yours? Some are fakes, I think. I bought some alleged blue open SR48 muteki lugs off egay for 30 some dollars and the paint chipped of most torquing the studs into the hubs.

Paid $90. Bought them from a local tuner shop. I dunno how to tell if they are fake or not. Packaging all line up with what Muteki has. If the new set I have install and start chipping/flaking the same way then I'm just gonna get some closed ended spline drive ones and get them powdercoated purple

Well pbm is out of stock. So hopefully some black Friday sells for muteki comes on.
