So as some of you know I recently parted out my SR in hopes of going with something more reliable and with much more power potential. So it was time to get rid of this paperweight and make space for something in an inline 6 :)
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e289/BiGgMiK3/IMG00166-20110313-1611-1.jpg
Then I sold my beloved BBS's
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e289/BiGgMiK3/IMG00385-20110928-1655.jpg
And this is how she sat for a bit

Til I got these 17x9.5+15 / 18x9.5+15 MB Battles to roll on (not the greatest but they wuz cheap)

Then it was time to empty the bay and rip the front end off - here is where we stand now

Pulling as much as I can so we can get a nice coat of paint in the bay. Ill be picking up my 2j/R-154 this weekend and hopefully dropping her in to check fitment and decide if I am going to trim the radiator support for a bit more clearance. This isnt much of a build just yet (more of a demolition) so ill just throw in a few pics of the goodies that started rolling in this week.

Didnt do much this weekend just picked up motor/trans and sent it to a buddys house for all new front seals/tensioner/timing belt/water pump/etc... Then she came home and I havent really done anything yet. I will be pulling off the stock twins this weekend and ordering some fuel components this week as well.
Pic of the shifter extension done by a local shop that S&O Teck (where I bought my engine/trans) sent it to be done...

-----------------------------------------
So I found some motivation and decided to tackle the twin turbo removal... boy what a pita... After removing those I put on the treadstone manifold and turbo for a little mockup

SO much more room with a single! Anyone thinking of doing this swap, do yourself a favor a ditch the twins. I pulled them off with the engine out of the car and it was a nightmare... I couldnt imaging doing this after the engine is in that tiny bay
Shout out to this can of AERO KROIL for without you those silly twins would still be stuck to my 2j

Ive tried PB before but this AeroKroil works better than anything ive ever used

A local shop did the extension for me. Yes it is a R154 - I can take a rough measurement of the plate that was added if that helps you
Thanks for the comments guys

Like Flicktitty said im guessing around 3500rpm which IMO would be pretty awesome for this sized turbo

Nice build otherwise!

02-13-2013, 07:09 AM
Thanks for the compliments guys. The exhaust mani is actually not that bad once u get past the fit net issues. Flicktitty used it on his build with great success as well as many others making big numbers.

02-13-2013, 07:53 AM
I believe Flick used the Treadstone like I am using but nonetheless its the same idea and similar design. Even the Treadstone's have fitment issues here and there so the issue isnt unique to the Ebay version.
For those that think that Log Mani's cant break the 600-ish rwhp as it was thought in the past....see below, its not my car. (Keep in mind this is with a 10:1 CR but still...)
Current specifications on the car:
- 1994 original 6 speed turbo with ~54,000 miles on the chassis
- Built 10:1 compression shortblock with CP pistons and Eagle rods
- Stock head with HKS 264 cams only, stock valve springs and hardware throughout
- FSR cast manifold turbo kit with PTE6466 0.81A/R, 45mm Turbosmart low profile Hypergate wastegate, wastegate dump recirculated into downpipe
- ProEFI128 tuned by Dave Jusko and Ian from FSR
- 3 inch turbo back piping (3 inch downpipe to TRD Gen 2, 3-inch exhaust)
- Dual Walbro 400 E85 pumps, 43psi base pressure
- FIC2150 injectors
Results so far:
906WHP, 824WTQ (STD correction, 888WHP SAE) @ 35psi on E85
Talk about a BEAST!
Keep up the good work Big Mike.....

My manifold is a treadstone and yeah log manifolds have been shattering all sorts of hp myths lately

02-13-2013, 09:54 AM
Looking good! The cast manifold might not be the most blingy manifold out there. But it gets the job done! Quick response still holds great power, and it works well with the S13 for clearance reasons.

lol my bad...thats what happens when you cant see pix at work. I thought you were using another Log Mani. I will try and post a pic of my Mani which was ported and heat coated by SP (in black).....may not be blingy but it looks really good IMO. Cant beat the simple design of the Mani and the turbo response/torque that these produce. I am actually concerned about having too much torque on my setup and possibly spinning a rod or something. I have a spare GE block which I am planning to tear down and have upgraded rods and rod bolts installed. Planning to clean the block and then install all of the OEM stuff minus those upgrades mentioned above. The pistons and rest of the block have proven to be very stout so I see no need in spending a butt load of money on upgrading something that I will likely not take advantage of.

I can't remember are you running ethanol? seems only the E85/E98 Cars with the QSV/ Cast Manifold are having rod issues. I'd be more concerned about spinning the tires all the time.
2muchboost
02-13-2013, 11:26 AM
Yeah I have 4 gas stations with E85 near me and my buddy who is a chemical engineering has 2 55-gallon drums of E98 sitting in his man-cave. I have the QSV-HDTI and Treadstone. Using this with the 6766 I am sure will cause issues if I push the setup. I will be asking Alpha to keep the tune on the milder side to make sure I dont mess up the rods. Once the spare GE block is ready I will def push 35+ psi just to see where the setup will end up at. For now my low 10's 1/4 mile goal should be ok with this setup but again I am afraid of rod failure if I take it to track before I have the revamped GE block installed.
As far as spinning the tires, I am sure I will have issues. I will be on low boost in street use which should help and really looking at R-Compound tires out back just to help out. I wont necessarily daily this car since I have a daily and work a lot but I will be driving the car whenever I get the chance. If I can use the car 2-3 days out of the week I would be super happy.

Very nice...I also installed the R154 using the mount but I paid a little more than $4 (im jelly lol).
Did you keep your original Rosette Rivets or are you installing the Vin Plate using a different method? Im curious because I may have lost (FML...x 1,000,000) my original rivets and might need to get creative to reinstall. Wouldnt want the cops questioning the car especially since my dash never had a vin plate.

Hit a major snag yesterday...
As we lifted the engine/trans at a steep angle we noticed the rear main seal was pouring out a ton of oil...
Now Ive pulled the gearbox off to inspect - gotta figure this out before I go any further

Thats the thing - I had the shop that I bought it from do the rear main seal and install trans... I provided a brand new OEM Toyota seal so now they are working with me to figure out wtf is goin on
All of my front seals and timing components have been done as well by a toyota master tech so Im not worried about those
Hopefully its nothing serious

Looks like the guy who installed it pushed the seal too far in. He is giving me a new seal and I'm going to have the housing inspected for any gouges and if all looks good install the seal. Also going to reseal both oil pans while the trans is off. Ill keep u guys posted.

I thought that might be an issues but since the guy was Master Tech I held back from mentioning that. Yeah there is a particular depth that the seal goes into the block. If memory serves me right from the install the top of the seal should sit flush the tiny "lip" you see in the pic so that. Hope everything else is alright. Glad you figured it out.

Yeah I'm guessing one of his employees did the job because he knew the problem as soon as he saw the pics. No big deal ill be using this as an opportunity to reseal both oil pans just for safety

Glad you figured that out before it caused any real issues. BTW...I ended up using a dab of Gasket Maker around the Front Main Seal with the idea that it could keep the seal in place while under high boost. I was reading thru AFRACERS thread and he had done the same thing. Not sure if this is something your interested in but thought I would throw it out there just in case.

looks good mikey just be sure to include a fitting/source for crankcase evacuation under boost. Such as from the turbocharger inlet, or even an exhaust scavenging setup (on the downpipe). You need some form of PCV if you want the engine to live a long healthy life putting down any kind of power. I would just go with a fitting on the compressor inlet and have it directed toward a non-check valved valvecover source. That way it always functions, but under boost when the 1-way check on the intake manifold (or valvecover) closes up, it still functions off the pressure drop before the compressor.

Hey nice build but I have a question about the harness
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e289/BiGgMiK3/IMG_20121224_135937_zpsd27cc70f.jpg
I'm confused on why they made a sub harness for the speed calibration unit? The speed sensor runs through the lower harness into the fuse box, then into the cluster. It shouldn't have anything to do with the engine harness.
For the tachometer calibration unit I could understand because that input is taken directly from the engine harness.

I honestly couldn't answer that for you - although Yuri is a member here and Im sure he could answer that. I think its neat how he added it into the harness for ease of installation.

I'm asking because I am in the process right now of making my harness and I actually had the same idea, except I'll be adding a connector in the middle. Though the way I understand is for our cars the vss is not part of the engine harness.

I thought the same thing but I guess Yury has magically worked it in for user friendly installation of the Dakota Digital Boxes
Mr. Phonso
06-05-2013, 07:47 PM
Did Yury give you a lower harness as well?
I think I have a theory on the way he wired up the speed calibration wires with the engine harness hope you don't mind me posting, because I was thinking of doing this myself.
VSS sensor output --> lower harness --> connector --> into 2jz engine harness and through the firewall into the cabin --> input to Dakota unit --> output back out into 2jz engine harness back out the firewall --> same connector --> lower harness --> to fuse box --> into cluster with recalibrate speed
So essentially it has nothing to do with the 2jz engine harness itself, but it just runs along part of it as a way of CONVENIENCE. Smart stuff, defiantly makes things easier and more neat than having wires going through the shifter hole.

I wasnt having any success with the Xcessive engine/trans brackets so I ordered Get Nuts Lab engine and trans brackets as well as the matching steel 1 piece drive shaft thru Ace Up Motorsports (Awesome to deal with - spoke to Vitaly). So the brackets came within 3 days and boy did they look and feel much better than the Xcessive pieces (no offense to Rich whom has been awesome in dealing with and will be refunding my $$$ for the stuffs).
These are different for each side - pics for reference incase anyone else has em and question which side is which.

I wouldnt risk it... you would probably falcon punch the radio every time you shifted into 1st 3rd and 5th. I think its a 2.5" extension and sits right in the center of the hole but dont quote me on that length.

Mike i have to say that your build is motivating me to try a bunch of things your doing. You and flick have convinced me to go single as well. Im currently looking up all this stuff to do it, which fuel rail did you go with?
I was thinking of buying 525cc or 650s since my turbo will be smaller than yours(thinking about the GT3082r for around 400-500). Also i have most of what info i need for the single retrofit but im not quite sure how your able to control your turbos boost and such without an EMS. Could you shed some light on these?
And seriously badass paint job, super clean look!!! If mine turns out half as good as this well that will be alright! haha

Been forever since I've updated this... Got the fuel lines ran just need to mount fuel filter now and wire in AFC NEO to crank it I think... Along with some heater hoses and minor little things
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/08/edy2eze2.jpg
Also bought some one way check valves for my gas tank vent instead of leaving it open or capped

for you check vavles for the fuel vent line, why did you buy 2? shouldn't you only need to run only one of those?
Do you have a picture of your setup?
i currently have my line cut and capped off, but thinking about cutting it further back, near the gas tank, and installing a check valve.. but i also have an s14, and i know that they have 2 way gas caps..

The valves came in a set of 2 (only using 1) I will be installing it this weekend the same way Mikester did (See quoted post below) but instead of a filter alone I will be using a check valve to relieve negative pressure in the tank (allowing the tank to "suck in" air to replace gas vol used)
Source:
http://zilvia.net/f/s-chassis/503574-how-delete-s13-charcoal-cannister-evap-system.html
6. Remove the check valve if you desire to get rid of all plumbing completely, or simply disconnect the 1/4" hose going from the check valve to the fuel tank.
** If you did not remove the tank from the car, the evap hose nipple can be a real PITA to get to:
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8389/8473001367_b7f3f289e4_o_d.jpg
7. Remove the hose from the evap nipple on the tank, or install a male/male 1/4" barb fitting into the hose (from check valve to fuel tank) to extend it if you left it connected.
8. Once you have extended or replaced the hose with a longer length, run it to a location that is generally safe from debris/obstructions. I ran mine toward the back of the tank along the lip:
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8109/8474317868_24ddf239b2_b_d.jpg
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8379/8473229849_7afa79d534_b_d.jpg
9. Cut hose to desired length, put a small filter on the end to keep debris & critters out (filters are in lawnmower/small engine section of any auto parts store); and secure with adel clamps or zipties.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8391/8474317820_67ba8e8abd_b_d.jpg
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8085/8473229715_16c42624fb_b_d.jpg
At this point, you are done. Remember, the tank NEEDS to be vented in some way, shape or form!!!
**If you left the hardline in place, place vacuum caps over both sides to keep debris/critters out... Or just to be sure no residual fumes will find their way into the engine bay. Removing the hardline is self-explanatory; therefore not covered. For those of you with no clue how to get it out; DO NOT do anything beyond step 1 :fawk:

I like the build
But all that work and spend all that money and you cheap out on one of (if not THE) most vital components in your system and go for a NEO?? I wouldn't trust that thing to start my lawn mower (been through the NEO stage, and removed it from one of the vehicles I picked up recently and promptly went with a Nismotronic..........The Neo made everything run like shit........even after fiddling with it and doing some dyno pulls. No thanks!)
A few hundred more and you could have sourced a used AEM or something.........
Great build non-the-less!

Agreed 100% with ya bud the NEO was a shortcut to get it running until I have 2k for an AEM. I won't be boosting more than 12-14psi until I get a proper EMS.

DAMN!
How low is low?
What do you plan on doing? Just a fresh rebuild? Or going to build the motor?

It was a sad sad day yesterday...
1-4 were @ 170-175psi
5 was @ 150psi
6 was @ 120psi
Planning on the "cheapest" route just an OEM rebuild if possible with ARP head studs to hold a little more boost in the future.
