View Full Version : fuel pump doesn't prime, no power to distributor, no power to ecu(i think)

so when you turn the ignition to the on position the ecu should have a light on or a light that blinks inside the hole of the ecu correct? Also when you put it in the on position shouldn't there be a light that says check engine on the cluster that lights up so you know that your ecu has power???

I have been looking everywhere online to try and find diagnoses but only thing i can find is that if you have no power to distributor and fuel pump doesn't prime it means bad ecu.

I do not believe my ecu is bad i believe i am not getting power to the ecu.

i have my stock ecu and my enthalpy ecu, I have tried both...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

fuel pump relay in the driver side kick panel. It is bolted to a platic plate inside the sheet metal. If it's not clicking, either the relay is bad or the fuse blew. I had a problem where you turn the key and it would click super fast and kill the injectors and pump. Maybe it's that? I forget what color it is though, there are blue ones and brown relays.

would i even get a prime from the fuel pump if my ecu isn't getting any power?

Yeah, my ECU was getting power, but it is like a main relay to the fuel pump, coil and injectors.

Before your start ripping your car apart open up the ecu and check for any fried circuit I just got done going through 2 dizzys/CPS and 2 ignition coils and ICMs nothing worked... And after about a month I pulled out the ecu and I one circuit fried and it was causing my fuel pump not to prime and my car not to spark... But the ecu was still getting power... Swapped the ecu for a good one started right up :D

I have 2 ecu's, stock and enthalpy that I have already checked the circuit board and their both good

Ok so basically your not getting any power to the ecu? And all your fuses are good?

Brown plug by ecu post below this one on forum... is a picture of a plug I now believe is what is causing my problem, please check that post and let me know where it plugs into. Somewhere above the eco but I can't find it...

Does it crank??? When you turn the key

yea it cranks, engine turns over, the flywheels spins

That plug does not power the ecu.
You need a multimeter and an FSM and learn how to use them.
Check for power at the ecu, main and the backup power.
The other side of the dash connector is under the dash and to the right.
when you get power to the ecu, the check engine light shall illuminate.
The ecu grounds the relay for the fuel pump, when the ecu gets power it should work fine. This is unless you screwed other things up prior.

what does that plug do? I'm Redline stopped by the house today and showed me where that plug went to but mine is gone.

I'm Redline's car

That's the blower motor resistor for AC. I knew it looked familiar.

did you check you ECCS power relay/ and Fuel pump relay on the passenger side fuse box under the hood. Eccs relay gives your ecu power.

Is that the two blue relays by the ecu? How do I test them?

no,they are under the hood. I took a relay of the same kind that worked and swapped them.
Its most likely the eccs relay (Blue i think)

that is for a s13... i have a s14

been looking online and it is also called egi relay... still can't seem to locate a pic of where it is though.. maybe my online skills aren't that good

ok so the white ecu plug that sits behind the ecu, there a lever there that you have to pull up to tighten it down the all the pins.. that wasn't pulled up...

I have ecu power and fuel pump primes... so i go and try to start it and fuel is spewing out of the fuel injectors...

should be an easy fix
