ok, so my rotors are all rusted and ugly. ive been eyeing up these brembo blanks for a while now but it's non-abs.

my car has abs but im using a non-abs driveshaft so my abs is disabled right now. anyway, i check on parts.com for a difference in the rotors but there's only the distinction between the base model and se model rotors; not abs or non-abs. so my question is, can i use non-abs rotors?

S14? front or rear, or all? whether your ABS works or not won't matter. i believe all the rear rotors are the same but the fronts are different, i don't know how. a trip to the parts store might answer that question.

yea but on parts.com theres only a distinction between base model and se model (4lug / 5lug). shouldn't that mean it doesn't matter if its abs or non-abs?

The only diff is that one has 5 lug (SE) ...one has 4 (non SE). Rotors are not ABS specific...the sensor ring for the ABS is on the hubs.

reading other posts on other forums, i believe the difference is the width of the rotor. not sure which one is wider, but there is a difference.

according to the FSM the only difference in the ABS and non-ABS systems is the master cylinder. the rotors are the same thickness and diameter, i doubt it will matter. if you're still worried, call your local dealer and ask them. they will at least be able to tell you if which parts are different.

brake stuff for S14's is really werid... I went to napa to get some new pads.. and they only carried "non abs" pads... along with a couple of other brands... The guy there was nice and did a lil research for me, and saw some brands had the same part number for abs pads and non abs pads, I went ahead and got them cus i needed pads bad, and yea i feel no difference... still brakes well and when abs kicks it it still works too.

Rotors are pretty much the same.. they might say non abs for warrenty reasons, when ur abs kicks in it quickly engages the piston and disengages, pretty much pulses it so ur wheels dont lock, it causing some stress on ur rotor that might cause it to warp... So dont worry just use them... ur abs is disabled anyway right?? well at least ur rear ones im assuming...

just so you know, if one of the sensors stops working, the entire ABS system will shut down. if you had one wheel, or both rears, not working it would be a really easy to spin the car during a hard stop. and that's the last thing you want.

Basically your question was already answered by mbmbmb23,
If you have a 4-lug(all 4-lugs are non-abs) then you have diiferent rotors than a 5-lug(all 5-lug are abs).

Brembo rotors part numbers are the following:
2/94 - 6/96: 4 lug w/out ABS - 25317(front), 25172(rear)
5 lug(ABS) - 25318(front), 25173(rear)

7/96 - 1998: 4 lug w/out ABS - 25511(front), 25172(rear)
5 lug(ABS) - 25328(front), 25173(rear)

There now make sure you get the right ones.......NEXT!!

Overview
Introduction

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 1996 Nissan 240SX is available in two models: 240SX (base) and SE. Standard in both models is a 155-horsepower 2.4-liter engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Safety equipment includes dual airbags, 1997 side-impact protection, and an energy-absorbing steering column. An anti-lock brake system (ABS) is optional on both models. Reclining bucket seats, power windows, a tilt steering column, and side and rear window defrosters are standard. The SE comes standard with power door locks, cruise control and air conditioning. An AM/FM stereo with CD player and a remote keyless entry with anti-theft system are additional standard items on the SE.

So yeah you're right some 4-lugs came with ABS. But I think the rotors sizes stayed the same for ALL 4-lugs. I think they kept it this way BECAUSE of the fact that ABS was optional on base models. Otherwise you'd end up with twice as many types of rotors sizes for the 95-98 240!! Sheesh!!
