So i can finally say im back ! so a little history.

had my last red s14 for about 5years,

http://i38.tinypic.com/15mjmaa.jpg

I loved this car to death , it wasn't anything too crazy, kouki, ka-t, standalone, suspension, rims brakes blah blah blah.. it was awesome tho..

then in November of 2010 tragedy hit, my car was involved in an accident,

http://i53.tinypic.com/f2ljyh.jpg

sadly i could not fix her, strut tower was shifted in almost 3".. i had to part her out..

then i dont know what got into me (probably the influence of ex girlfriends..) i decided i will grow up and get a BMW.. i then bought this 4dr 335i 6mt

http://i39.tinypic.com/33osmjc.jpg
http://i40.tinypic.com/9ptfft.jpg

pretty nice car.. i did usually bmw d-bag stuff, angles eyes, chip/downpipes/intakes.. car was pretty quick but no fun.. I missed the s14 .. Every time i saw one my hear ached.. i went to cali and came back with a clear head and decided its time to sell the bmw..

Just so happened i decided to look for s14 again and i found one.. in long island.. red.. kouki.. ka-t, just like my old car.. it was set i need it!

so finally got the bmw sold! Now im back..

everyone meet Renee

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With that being said, for summer im focusing on looks and suspension. I just swapped out the zenki tail lights for kouki tail. I plan on ordering Fortune auto coilovers this week.

I'm debating on which company to use for suspension arms, im between powered by max/spl/fortune auto.. i will defiantly order those soon.

then im going to rebarrel the rims: right now the vs-mx's are :
18x8 +34 (1.5" lip/ 18x9 +38 (2" lip),

going to get some 3"/4" lips new size and offsets will be:
18X10 +8 245/35 and 18X11 +17 265/35.

that should hold me down until next year when i get the real rims i want.

i also plan to re tune the fcon and raise the boost up a little, i just want around ~420whp for the summer.

ill keep this build active as i get parts in and progress is made.

Small ricer update!

Installed led corner bulbs and led cluster bulbs

all bulbs are from super bright leds.com

the corner bulbs are the 16x led 194 bulb,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

now while driving around sat night, "testing" the car i seen that my tune has some issues...

after a good beating session on the high way with a evox and 370z my car was running super rich 9.8-10.5 off boost, it was struggling to idle and wanted to flood out. Below 50% throttle it would be way to rich, and the wide band would be just toggling between 9.8- 11.5 randomly..

as i stop beating on the car and drove it normal, it began to act normal again, it stopped stalling out when coming to stop and clutch in.. the a/f returned to 12.7-13.5 lo throttle cursing speeds.

the lower drive ability part of my maps sucks! i can see that it needs a retune. So it looks like after this round of mod, im going to have to bite the bullet start the fuel system and cams, and go for a re tune.. goal - 500-550whp...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

update coils are in!

driving impressions-
Dampening was set 18 clicks form soft all around. I did the full stiff -> full soft as recommended before final adjustment of Damper.

Living in NYC and having experience in a s14 with harsh coils I was nervous in the beginning.. My first impression when driving down the block away from the shop was “wow these feel almost like the tien springs/stock strut combo” they felt more firm and responsive. Taking some dips on the road at fairly low speeds and the car remained stable, it wasn’t bouncy at all. The coils rebounded pretty quickly at local driving speeds ~15-30pmh. Compared to other coilovers they would get pretty bouncy at those speeds on wavy pavement. The joints/cracks in the road I didn’t notice them! That was a huge huge surprise to me. I was so happy that the coils rode so comfortable on local streets. I did purposely go over a few pot holes to see how harsh it was compared to the spring and struts combo. To my surprise it wasn’t that bad. It wasn’t as forgiving as a spring and strut but it didn’t make my back hurt over the bump either.. But needless to say I will be avoiding all pot holes..

On to Highway impressions-
My commute from the shop to my home is around 30miles, nyc high ways are unforgiving, pot holes, uneven pavement, cracks, un level areas that look and feel like some one put a speed bump on the high way for no apparent reason -__-
Cursing around 60mph the car is super responsive, lane change and weaving left to right is super responsive, as soon as I turn the wheel the car moves. It doesn’t lean it just goes with out delay. The ride isn’t bouncy at all. Its not to firm as in low speed testing, it rebounds nicely over uneven pavement. Driving around 60-70mph I didn’t feel the joints in the high way, it felt good not to have the car twitch over every line. I did slightly feel when the asphalt met cement and back to asphalt. But its nothing to complain about, Fortune Auto coilovers are way more forgiving then other coilvovers. The swift springs make the car feel soo composed, honestly it felt stable like my 07 335i on the high way, a nice comfortable ride and handle nicely, its very composed the car isn’t all over the road and it doesn’t tend to pull into the crown of the road like some overly stiff coilovers. The response is crazy, my last s14 had full suspension and arms spl outer tie rods/tension rods/ full rear arms, sub frame bushing ect. And in response this new car feels like this car with just coilovers! Amazing. Fortune auto did a great job with the Digressive valving on this coil.

My only only compliant was that over a big bump on the high way the coilover rebounded pretty hard, but It is expected as they are coilovers.. and the other negative would be on extremely low speed less then 10mph on a wavy piece of road the coils do feel a little bouncy but nothing that is to harsh. Again they are coilover and it’s the nature of them.

Over all im super satisfied with the coilovers and picking Fortune auto, Terry was a big help throughout the whole process of matching spring rate s and taking time to explain to me how the coilovers worked. He predicted them to be just like how they are! The swift springs are amazing defiantly worth the money. Even Damium was surprised at how well these coils rode in comparison to all the other coils hes tired.

I will keep updating this thread as I get more seat time with the coilover and also how it stands up over time. Right now the ride height is 25” from the floor to fender arch. I will be lowering it soo to around 23”. I will give another assessment of the car at that height to compare it at a lower setting. Also I will adjust the dampening to a softer and harder setting to see the difference.

Over all id recommend these coils, its super comfortable, firm and sporty when it needs to be and it fits on the car perfectly.

Thanks to Fortune Auto and terry for the FA510, and thanks to Damium at Tarmac for the install and all the help with adjusting and dialing in the coilovers.

update

this weekend i spent some time fixing and finding issues with the car..

things replaced:
oil
spark plugs
coolant temp sensor
tps sensor

Also i had D from TARMAC help me out, he found out that on my fcon harness i had a broken tps wire, which was causing my tps sensor to jump around. so we fixed that thinking it would help my running rich issue..

so after all that the car was still idling at 9.7:1 , it would stumble around 2-2700rpms, but after that it would be ok, driving a little better 11.9-12.5.

on boost the car runs good, 11.5-10.8 no hesitation or flat spots.

as i drove the car for a little i did notice drive ability get better .. which leads me to believe that the fcon has some kind of adaptive learning but im not sure. It still doesn't run 100% tho but the flat spot went away.

then we thought it may be a bad o2 sensor on the wideband causing it to run like crap. so we swapped out my wide band o2 for a good working one and still the same:confused::confused::confused:

while going through all this i did find out that my wastegate gasket is burnt and needs to be replaced and has a slight leak, also my turbo seems to be a tad bit loose on the manifold but not enough to cause a leak ( or at least i think not) but i dont think a exhaust leak pre turbo can cause such a big difference in a/f readings..

the other weird thing is that when i changed my plugs they were fouled, i put new ones in and drove around with it reading "rich" but when i looks at the plugs/o2 sensor after putting them in they did not have any black residue on it to indicate it running extremely rich. idk im stumped..|

im going to fix the exhaust gaskets/leaks and transmission and see if any thing changes.. if not then im going to take the car to the tuner and have he re program the fcon..

at a meet with tarmac

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/IMAG0973.jpg

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/IMAG0972.jpg

i also need to put my damm aero on..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally some good progress

went to good ol Tarmac to do some work.. goal today was to fix transmission and exhaust leak.

started off by pulling off the exhaust, i had more leaks then a sinking ship, exhaust was loose in 2 places, down pipe was loose in 2 places, wastegate re-circulation tube was also loose/broken. pulled all that off.

transmission came out no issues tho.. i didnt take much pics but heres one of my twin disk chilling.. its sooo cute

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/IMAG0985.jpg

while trying to tighten the wastegate we came to see that all four bolts on my turbo was loose as well.. we proceeded to tighten those as well.

while fixing the exhaust leaks, we decided no more re-circulation open dump ftw. I forgot how good that sounds.. slapped every thing back together and the car runs like a champ and i have reverse! :mysmilie_1725::mysmilie_1528gif:

now since all the hard stuff was done time for the fun stuff ... finally got around to installing my nismo N1 vents

making the whole

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/IMAG0990.jpg

test fitting first vent

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/IMAG0991.jpg

these things fit soo tight , we had to remover the front bumper so that we can get them to snap into the front bumper..

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/IMAG0993.jpg

me and oder comparing aero

all done!

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/IMAG0997.jpg

all in all a very productive 15hrs of wrenching

next up car goes to the body shop on Monday for make over:borat:

oh the problem with the car running like crap kinda fixed it self, we figured out that i had a broken tps wire on my f-con harness, we fixed that and once i drove the car around for a bit it started to re-learn the bottom end of the tune. guess the F-CON has some kind of self learning idk.. also i disconnected my map sensor and blew it out , it had some white powder oxidation on it. As of now the car is running good

so no real progress , still waiting on wheels got delayed now we are looking end of october -__-

mean time ive been buying parts so far i have
pbm toe
drift freak mounts
z32 rear brake setup

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/20120920_180222_zps4921f35d.jpg
which i will be installing soon..

but in other news over the winter im changing my whole turbo/fuel setup so this should be interesting.. ill update soon as new go fast goodies come in ;)

also my current turbo setup will be for sale soon if anyone is interested:

jgs manifold
38mm wastegate
atp 3582r
3" downpipe/dumpipe
intake pipe

basically whole turbo side..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/20121004_184959.jpg

parts starting to roll in, also got the aem and downpipe but i didnt get to snap a pic of it..

need to get:
1.06 divided housing for 35r
tial 44mm wastegate
tial bov
bigger intercooler
start fuel system
i finally got off my lazy ass this weekend despite working 7days and put in some work.

had a buddy come over and started to rip the engine bay apart.

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/20121021_213348.jpg

so the full race mani is hitting the bolt for the power steering resv. looks like i need to unbolt it and it should slip on. i still need to change my exhaust gaskets tho.

and custom intake manifold .
http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/20121105_201920_HDR.jpg

its actually a zeta 1, i got it used from a local guy, later i plan on getting red zeta 2 tho.

haha i was on the wall with the nismo n1 vents on a s14, but it turned out well, the greddy lip ties it all together.

seems like the builder just built up the area with weld.

it worked fine for him and the previous owner tho. also the orginal builder of this manifold picked up 30whp on the same psi. so im really looking foward to install this asap.

pretty nice job on the inside of the plenum as well

now i just need my damm injectors and turbo to come back and i can start puttng it all together.

btw anyone know a good s.s. power steering line conversion kit. with the full race mani on, it sits right up to the p.s. rubber line.

my pump looks like this

made some progress this weekend,

finally got all the parts back i needed to assemble the turbo side and get the car to the shop.

decided to put all the new parts for my build together just to get a visual on the amount of money i dumped into this build -_-

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/20121215_171822.jpg

Manifold on, the full race mani was such a breeze to install. it is hands down the best ka-t mani i ever put on. ( i used about 5 different manifolds on other ka-t setups) everything was such easy access , it really makes a difference when buying quality parts

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/20121215_201935.jpg
http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/20121215_201951.jpg

i tried my best not to scratch the nice ceramic coating on the manifold.
As you can see the manifold/wastegate cleared everything well(ac/powersteering lines)only issue was the p.s. resivor line, that will need to be re-done in s.s. since it runs close to the first runner of the manifold.

started to put the turbo on and then i realized that the oil return line didnt reach, i had to pull it off and clock he turbo. this took up alot of my time.
I got it all reassembled and got the downpipe on.

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/20121215_203525-1.jpg

turns out that i dont have the turbo oil feed fitting, i need to order that before i can start the car again, then all i need to do is attach oil/coolant lines, i/c pipe and then its off to Tarmac for fuel system, intake manifold, catch can setup and custom fmic.

getting there..

the black and silver is nice to but kind of plain IMO

cold sided pipe almost done

coming together..
http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff421/turbo2nr1/20130308_230429_zpsf90a4c16.jpg

this setup should flow and spool up like no ones business, being its a t3 twin scroll and it has short pipes from the vmount, and it transistion from 2.5" - 3.5" very smooth. I cant wait to put some numbers down.

Still gotta get it tuned cranked it up for the first time after a few years the other day but between that im, .280 cams, and that ignition and injectors it will only idle...still working on getting any and all bugs worked out as I did everything at 1 time....custom harness, tucked brake lines, motor build, tubs, wire tuck, z32/evo8 brembo brakes etc etc but its almost ready break in will be 9lbs on pump for about 1000 miles then I'll crank it up looking for over 600 on 110

Damn man, that's a kickass build. I love your attention to the details. Nice work.

Someone's asked this already but I think you may have missed it. With that charge system so rigid, won't the intercooler need to be on some sort of soft mounts so that it will wrap with the engine movement or are you solid mounting the motor mounts? If not, I'd just be worried about that exhaust manifold taking the brunt of all that.

Again though, killer work. Please continue.

turbo2nr
09-10-2013, 12:51 PM
thanks, I cant take full credit Tarmac-spl's owner Damian is a perfectionist that why everything came out as amazing as it did so far.

The wiggins allow for 20deg of flex and yes the car is on drift freaks poly mounts. We are also planing to back a torque damper for the engine so it doesnt flex much.

hopefully she will be starting soon. these finishing touches are killer takes so much time and money to get all the stupid little things..

basic starter zilvia interior. I am in love with the nardi classic I brought back form japan and my yashio knob.

- on another note I am driving the car almost everyday. the road tune is decent but I still need to have my friend clean it up so I can hit boost. Ive hit about 5psi and the car feels fast but I know that's nothing.

I really need to install my cams and springs asap and re-do my exhaust. Also I need to pull my fenders someone as the rear tires are getting abused by my fenders.. so I still have some buys to work out but other wise I love driving this thing! Tarmac did an amazing job everything fits and works perfectly with all the customization that was done.

ive been driving the car alot , so far no issues, the tune is still rich but she boost hard on 16psi. I've noticed that the car feel a little more laggy for some reason and its been having what sounds like a random misfire at times. so i decided to look around the bay, everything looks fine but when i rev the motor i notice my bov is getting stuck open. Makes perfect sense why the car feels slugish i have a big boost leak. I need to call tial up today.

Do you have the correct spring for the BOV? Its sized by vacuum pressure which may have changed after your build (not sure if you had it before) due to cam sizing or w.e.

just read the build thread from page one to six. Very awesome work my friend, although I do think a wide stand gt wing would look better on your car rather than a cookie cutter kouki wing. Not my call.

Hopefully you get that thing dialed in, would hate to see the motor go due to a guestimation tune with pulled timing.

Thanks, \I really want to do a gt wing, but it i think it will look weird with just gp sports areo. I think im going to do the kouki wing and add a duckbill on it for now for a slightly different look.

Next year i want to do canards/ splitter/ diffuser/ and wide fenders front and rear, then throw on the gt wing and start tracking the car.

Have you tried taking the vac line off while its running to see if it closes? I had that happen to me on the dyno (wrong spring selection)

THis is one sweet sweet build btw man

cars been running awesome. Last saturday i put around 250miles on it, went all around queens > longisland, then up to westchester and bear mountain.

Dane cleaned up my tune alot, she runs alot better, idle afr is 12.8-13.8 and cruising is around 13.4-14.8 on boost she stay around 10.5 a little rich but we are working on it.

car was running awesome until last night... for some reason i was reversing into a parking spot and i lost power steering, something went all my p.s. fluid was all over my pay, i think i may have tore a line or something, i need to get that fixed this weekend. AND one of my hid ballast came loose after "spirited driving" on some nice backroads last night.. now i need a new one -__-

now for pics..

so ive been busy with other things but the car.. But i got back on track. Since its been snowing every week the car has just been parked up.

I decided this summer to start competing in road racing events. Enough with the street car stage.

Plans to make the car track ready:
-new brake setup
-z33 6sp
-oil cooler
-connect gauges
-more aero ( splitter diffuser canards)
-kouki spoiler
-less aggressive wheel setup and sticky r-comps tires
-remove camber from the car get a good alignment
-cam /springs /cam gears
-clean up and finalize the tune

Shooting for a 500whp pump gas track car and 600whp on corn.

Got some parts to move froward with the plan:

Posting so I can look back to this thread for inspiration to my ka-t build.

I bought my s13 (first car lol) a month ago and right now im just getting the car in worthy clean condition and then hopefully a year from now I can do my full engine rebuild and swap in some 180sx body parts. My car is going to a mix of everything lol

My goal when I do the rebuild is to get 400whp on pump with ls1 coils with a garret gt35, then down the line try shoot for 600+ like you but I still want this car to be my daily for the next 3 years.

Can I ask how you cleaned up the engine bay so nicely? Where did you tuck all the fuse boxes and wires? Mine is an utter mess from the previous owner being so careless.

turbo2nr
05-29-2015, 10:59 AM
Thanks, We cleaned the engine bay and just tucked the harness as best we could, pulled it out and shortened it then routed the wires and such in a neat way.. the fuse box is still in the engine bay on the left hand side by the headlight.

As of now she just sits in my drive way collecting pollen with a dead battery and a fried clutch... I hope to fix it soon and get this car going again but life has been super busy.

8/31/15 - update

Got the car back from the shop and it runs amazing.

The white bunny clutch is sooo much more dive able then the burnt out twin disk I had in it. My Power steering leak is fixed turned out to be the stupid isis rack bushing wasnt seating correctly. Last I went over the whole car and re-tightned various lose bolts and parts that rattled loose from the chatter of my twin disk.

I had a blast driving this call all saturday and sunday, I cant wait now to get a tune on it.

I found out my exhaust had a serious whole in the muffler so I found a apexi gt spec exhaust for a good deal. Once that arrives I will install then its off for a Tune finally!

Now on to some pictures..

I really want to do a similar build and setup as yours for my hatch but thats $$$$ I might sell mine for a good bit since its fairly clean, use that money and whatever I was going to drop in engine work, suspension, brake/wheels and just import an r32. With the weather being so cold 25deg, i spiked to 20psi , that leads to no traction in 4th.

Does anyone know what causes this? What's the physics/calculation and theory behind this? what does it mean to spike to 20psi and having no traction in 4th? Just want to learn more about cars

turbo2nr
09-23-2015, 02:43 PM
At 20psi @ 25deg.F is the precise factors need to activate the flux capacitor ( as long as you have a healthy amount of blinker fluid (over 20oz.)). This was demonstrated in Eisenstein's Black Book trials that was never released to the public until amazon recently got a hold of this finding and published it.

Once the Flux capacitor activates YOU CANNONT stop it until the blinker fluid runs out. Seeing that I have I.D.2000cc blinker fluid injectors ( VERY RARE) it is just a short spike leading me to loss traction in 4th gear.

I hope this clears it up for you.

Man the car drives so much better with this new exhaust. I guess all the leaks in the old system really slowed down response. It feels alot more easy revving, maybe its because its lets restrictive. Also that last exhaust was heavy as hell, Need 2 people to carry it, The GT spec is light i can hold it up with one hand so I gained at least 15lb of weight savings.

The quality of this build is incredible, nice work. I just went through your IG and fell in love... would trade my Z in a heartbeat for this.

UPDATE!

finally dynoed...

Got up friday morning and make the 2hr drive to the tuner. Got there changed out my plugs went over the car and strapped her on to the dyno. The tuner Jeff evans he was pretty happy with the setup and how quick the response is with the turbo. He dialed in the 2000cc injectors perfect at idle afrs are right around 14.3-14.8, idle is at 1200 due to the fact that i do not have iacv. Did a few low power pulls off wastegate..

Right off the bat with some minor w.g. creep to 18psi (holding 15psi creeping to 18psi) at redline (7200) care made 430whp.

After realizing i forgot to install a boost solenoid and taking some time to wire one in we were back on the dyno.. We have to stop at 22psi because we were reaching the limit of 93 and my stock cam head -___-. So on a very conservative tune with ALOT more in it final numbers were...

502WHP/428FT/LB.

you can see the power band is very linear. The motor has alot more in it the setup wants to keep going but I seriously need to do some major head work and switch over to e85. The tuner feels like after I do this and switch to a z33 trans we can possibly touch 800whp.

Anyway on to some pics.. BTW can someone post the Vid for me I dont know how.. here is the link:

All and all im very happy with the car and its performance. Its a blast to drive very fun. very easy to control and feels very strong up top. I cant wait to keep going forward with the car.

Some snap chat fun...

Thanks,

i plan on running the maverick Motorsports adapter.

This winter is going to be very busy with building a head and tending to the transmission.

sick build, if i have to redo it all over, would have done it your way instead of RB25 route. keep it up.

I'm a little confused with your powerband. Usually ka-t's with a stock head and cams will see a power drop off around 5600 rpms, but yours keeps building after that.

Could it be that intake manifold? Or were you experiencing a continuous boost spike to redline which kept building more hp?

Great looking car/setup as always. My car wants to be like your car when it grows up lol
