air regulator high idle

I have a 2,000 rpm idle on my 89 ka24e. I've done just about everything people said too do. One thing that confuses me is people said to squeeze the hose that goes to the air regulator when the car is warmed up and see if the idle drops to normal. I did that and my car died immediately. does that mean the air regulator is bad or is that normal. And when i disconnect the plug on the air regulator nothing happens.

oh yea car only idles high when it's warmed up.


here is everything i've done:

checked for vacuum leaks - none
cleaned iacv
replaced coolant temp sensor
set tps too .45 volts
unplugged the iacv and the car idled normal
unplugged air regulator and it stayed the same
pinched hose too air regulator and car died instantly
adjusted idle screw with tps unplugged - it's in all way and it dropped the idle too 1,800 rpms
and reset ecu
throwing code 41 for air temp sensor but everyone says that's fine it won't affect idle

i would agree with that. Check that adjustment screw at the throttle plate. i still think its vacuum leak.

IACV = Idle Air Control Valve. I don't work for JPL or NASA, but it may be something to further investigate :)

i would agree with that. Check that adjustment screw at the throttle plate. i still think its vacuum leak.

checked the screw already. i'll check again for leaks but wouldn't a vacuum leak be at all times? cause my high idle is only when it's warmed up

Take your IACV off and clean it and see if that fixes it and then get a new air temp sensor, they are like 50 or so bucks and your CEL goes away.

already took out the iacv and cleaned it out. i'll get the new air temp sensor. but for some reason I don't have a check engine light

It seems they are hit an miss, my car won't toss a code for a while when a sensor goes bad and once it does its wrong most of the time.

ok i went to a mechanic cuz i have a similar problem.. first when u squeeze the hose on thr air regulator it should not make ur car idle any differently or die in your case. also when you try to use the iacv adj. screw does your idle change?? if not, according to the mechanic it is because the iacv-air regulator is by-passing it, therefore its stuck open so replacing would need to be done.. plus your car is dieing when squeezing the hose... so i would change out the iacv-air regulator. see if it helps.. if not replace the iacv and go from there.. hope this helps!

ok cool. and yea it changes the idle but only like 200 rpm's difference.
