hey guys, just got done swapping a ca18det into my 89 hatch did all the wiring my self. soldered it and shrink wrapped everything.replaced the waterpump and timing belt. but i did mark my cas before removal, and made sure all my timing marks lined up properly, im running my ka-e maf. went to start it the other day and it just cranked and never fired, i know im getting fuel cause my fuel pump is kicking on and i pulled a fuel line off, so im getting fuel. pulled the number 1 spark plug and no spark. i checked my coil pack ground and my ignitor ground. i also turned my cas and can hear the injectors clicking. i also check the codes on the ecu and it was throwing code 34 which is knock sensor. would my knock sensor not being wired in cause it not to crank? im kinda stumped. help would as to where i should go from here would be much appreciated. cheers

Hmm could be on the CA but something still sounds fishy on the CAS. Are you sure the ignitor is in working shape? I would focus more on that. Also check the actual wires, outputs from the ECU to the Ignition system, the outputs on the pinouts, a lot times these get corroded and don't send signal out when their rusty worn out etc etc.

I checked to see if my coils where getting power and they are, I check all my grounds and the resistance of the coil packs it's was .9-1.0. Not really sure where to go from here. Maybe signal wires to my coilpacks?

just because you have power at each coil does not mean ignitor is working. The coils are ignited by ignitor grounds . If ignitor is bad , no spark at all even if you have power at each coil. I would double check and make sure CAS is installed correctly.

I did take it off to change the timing belt, how do I make sure it's on correctly in the right position?

did you mix up the dropping resistor plug with the ignitor plug i did it one time and it wouldnt start?

Umm not really sure, how can I tell?

Just swap the connectors they look exactly alike and see if it starts

And the knock sensor code will let it run but it will pull timing and dump fuel so i t wont run at 100%

I looked around the harness and I didn't see a plug that looked like the igniter plug

theres a rectangular silver box thats your dropping resistor try switching that plug

Okay I checked the plugs and the only plug I found similar to the one u have plugged in is close to the maf plug, and the pins didn't look to be the same as it do I think I have the right plug plugged in

Also Checked the plugs for power and neither of the igniter plugs are getting power

UPDATE** checked the smaller ignitor plug and its gettin 12v to two pins so my next guess is my igintors bad?

that or maybe its gounding out on something? are they suppose to get 12v?

I do have it bolted to my engine bay could that cause it to ground out? And I'm guessing its supposed to get 12v

Hmm.. I don't think so. And I have no idea about the amount of voltage needed there. It probably is suppose to be 12v's

Yeah that's what I was thinkin. I'm thinkin it's my ignitor tho. Also I was lookin for the resistor mentioned earlier and I can't seem to find any little metal box anywhere on my harness ? Maybe missing

I just looked through my engine bay and didnt see a silver box either unless he's referring to the ignitor? But yeah that could be a good possibility

Does yours run without it?

I have that metal box thing and engine harness sold recently had it too. That might be your problem. I have no fuel. Fuel pump is dead. But soon ill get my ca running.

Are you using the sohc or dohc throttle cable? Mine dont fit, not long enough.

can you post pictures of the engine harness plugged in to compare with mine. i believe i messed up some where cuz my car wont start either. we in the same boat.

do what i did, go to wiring specialties, buy a CA18 harness made for USDM cars and sleep well...

Ahh, I had wiring problems when I first swapped in my CA as well. I literally had a picture for EVERY plug on that motor and where the correct connections were... but... my SD card took a shit on me. Ill scrounge around and see if I still have some pics that might help you in some of my albums and on Facebook.

*update*. I am getting spark, my fuel pump is kicking on. And I'm still not starting it just cranks. Doesn't even try to start. I tried switching the fuel lines and nothing changed. I even sprayed some carb cleaner in the throttle body and it still didn't sart. I'm starting to think its out of time from where I put the new water pump and timing bet on. Idk. Someone help!

try switching out your ecu
sounds like the same issue i was having
